The University of Kansas Health System Emergency Department expansion is featured in the latest edition of Healthcare Design Magazine. The 49,900 SF, multi-phase expansion adds 30 new and 22 updated treatment rooms, trauma rooms, and advanced imaging suites. The expansion and renovation occurred within an active hospital environment on a tight, urban site, so the project was carefully phased to ensure uninterrupted emergency services throughout construction. The expansion not only increased capacity but also introduced specialized treatment areas, streamlined patient flow, and advanced trauma spaces—all designed to elevate patient safety, support whole-person care, and create a welcoming environment for patients, families, and staff.

Delivered in close partnership with JE Dunn Construction and Brack & Associates Consulting Engineers, P.A.. Explore the full feature in the August issue of Healthcare Design Magazine, page 99: https://www.nxtbook.com/emerald/healthcaredesign/202508/index.php?hsCtaAttrib=186435742645 #/p/98

The University of Kansas Health System needed a dermatology clinic designed for clinical precision—with space to support general care and a fully integrated micrographic surgery (Mohs) program.

Pulse Design Group transformed 16,400 SF of former office space into a patient-centered clinic that balances comfort and workflow efficiency. The design integrates 13 exam rooms, four procedure rooms, and dedicated Mohs spaces, including holding bays and real-time tissue labs.

We are proud to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the Friendship Inn, a 16,455 SF hospitality house in Kansas City, Kansas, offering a welcoming “home away from home” for families supporting loved ones during medical care at The University of Kansas Health System.

Pulse Design Group was honored to contribute to this meaningful project, collaborating with McCownGordon Construction and The University of Kansas Health System to create a warm, supportive environment that promotes comfort, privacy, and healing. Designed to ease the burden of extended hospital stays, the facility provides overnight accommodations, shared kitchen and dining areas, and restful common spaces for families in need.

“It has been a privilege to serve alongside my fellow board members at Friendship Inn. I have been able to witness firsthand the incredible impact this organization has on patients and family members. This ribbon cutting marks not just the opening of a beautifully reimagined home away from home, but the beginning of new opportunities for hope, dignity, and healing.”
— Michael Andracsek, AIA, LEED AP, Principal, Pulse Design Group

Congratulations to Friendship Inn, The University of Kansas Health System, and all project partners on creating a place where healing extends beyond hospital walls and advancing patient care by supporting the families who need it most.
