After your mammogram, were you told you have dense breasts?
What to Know and What to Do

1. Breasts are made of fat and glands that make milk, held together by fibrous tissue. The more glands and fibrous tissue compared to fatty tissue that a woman has, the “denser” her breast tissue.

Dense tissue appears white on a mammogram, and so does cancer. This makes it harder for radiologists to see cancer in dense breasts. Because cancer can be missed, it is often found when larger and at a later stage in women with dense breasts.
Additional Screening with Contrast-Enhanced Mammography or ultrasound can help detect breast cancer.

Our Story

Dr. Malley opened Imaging for Women in 1997 as Kansas City’s first stand-alone women’s imaging center because he envisioned a better way for women to experience health care. He wanted to extend high-quality medicine to all women in the community. Dr. Malley gathered a staff of dedicated personnel with a genuine caring attitude and a zeal for outstanding health care. Dr. Voeltz and Dr. Zupon continue to lead the practice with their passionate commitment to patient care. Our goal is to offer you the best possible experience when you visit our facility. We accomplish this by both utilizing the best technology currently available, including 3-D mammography with the option of patient-controlled compression and whole breast ultrasound. Imaging for Women has only certified technologists who are chosen for their skill at performing exams while showing compassion and care. Your exam is read in real-time by one of our board certified physicians, who have specialty training in breast imaging. If any additional images or exams are needed, they can be done the same day and you will leave knowing the results of your exam. If a biopsy or other special imaging is needed, the radiologist will discuss the need for this with you and in some cases the biopsy can be done the same day.

In addition to providing high-quality imaging and service, we do our best to keep patients’ financial interests in mind. We let you know the cost of any exam up front and offer payment plans for exams not fully covered by insurance. Additionally, we often charge significantly less than hospitals do for the same exam since we don’t have the large operating overhead and do not charge “facility” or “professional” fees. This results in significant savings, sometimes up to 80 percent, to the patient.
