Get to know our Board - Jonathan Stepp.
Jonathan shares why he serves on the Children's Mercy Cancer Center Auxiliary Board:
Since November 2022, I've had the privilege of being a part of the Children's Mercy Cancer Center Auxiliary Board, a journey that holds immense significance for me. As a 15-year survivor of pediatric cancer, having battled Osteosarcoma with 18 rounds of chemotherapy and a limb salvage surgery at Children's Mercy, I understand firsthand the importance of compassionate care and support during such challenging times.
My commitment to giving back extends beyond my board membership. As the author of "Pigeon on a Hill: The Power of Faith, Steadfast Support, and a Positive Attitude," I've dedicated my personal story and all proceeds from the book to nursing education on the oncology/hematology floor at Children's Mercy. This initiative ensures that nurses have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide exceptional care to pediatric cancer patients and their families. Additionally, I've established a fund specifically aimed at supporting nursing education, which serves as an additional resource to empower nurses and further enhance the quality of care provided to young patients battling cancer.
Joining the Auxiliary Board has provided me with a platform to directly contribute to the mission of Children's Mercy Cancer Center. Together with fellow board members, I'm committed to driving initiatives that empower patients and families, fund critical research, and foster a supportive community. I'm profoundly grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children fighting cancer. Together, let's continue to champion hope, healing, and brighter futures for these courageous kids.
Jonathan, your involvement on the CMCCA board is so important. Your firsthand experience and your passion for the cause is so powerful. Thank you for serving!
