In 1929, Dr. L. E. Faris established Floral Hills Cemetery as a garden-type cemetery, a new concept at the time. Dr. Faris served as the cemetery's president until his death in 1952.
Floral Hills Funeral Home was added to the cemetery property in 1954, creating the 1st sister locations of funeral home and cemetery on the same property in Kansas City.
Over the years, many areas of the funeral home have been renovated, including a recent update that included new flooring and audio/visual equipment, keeping the facility both attractive and modern.
Today, Floral Hills Funeral Home and Floral Hills Cemetery are members of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers.
Floral Hills Cemetery
Covering approximately 130 park-like acres, Floral Hills Cemetery is a picturesque final resting place. It includes 15 statues throughout the property and several special memorial structures. We are a non-denominational memorial park, serving the Kansas City community with personal, compassionate care. Our team of experienced professionals is mindful of every need, respectful of every wish and watchful of every detail. We understand that losing a loved one is an emotional and difficult experience, and are committed to providing caring, professional and personal service.
Range of Burial Options
Floral Hills Cemetery offers standard ground burial options, memorial and cremation benches, mausoleums, private family estates and other permanent memorialization options. The funeral home building also includes spacious, climate-controlled columbaria with glass-front niches and a calming water feature.
One of our community mausoleums is topped with a bell tower adorned with a beautiful cross. Another community mausoleum on the cemetery property features 3 crosses embedded in one of the walls. The grounds also include the Freedom Memorial, a 4-winged granite structure with bronze plaques that include the names of local veterans.
Community And Military
In addition to the funeral services that we provide to Kansas City families, we also invite the community to Floral Hills Funeral Home and Floral Hills Cemetery throughout the year. We host a Memorial Day ceremony in May as well as a holiday memorial service every December. These traditions allow us to bring families together to remember, reflect and honor their loved ones in a beautiful community setting.
For Memorial Day, we host a service with a speaker, brass band, singer and placing-of-the-wreath ceremony. Throughout the entire weekend, we display nearly 1,500 American flags in the Avenue of Flags, honoring those who have served our country. The Avenue of Flags, which spans the length of the cemetery, is a beautiful tribute that the community continues to enjoy every year.
Both the funeral home and cemetery also participate in efforts such as the We Honor Veterans program and the Dignity Memorial® Public Servants Program.
