Children's Center for the Visually Impaired (CCVI) To prepare children with visual impairments to reach their highest potential in the sighted world.

12/08/2025

Last Month, for Disability Pride Month, we had the privilege of partnering with United Way to help remind our community of the importance of year-round visibility, inclusion, and equity for people with disabilities. As an Impact 100 partner, we are grateful for our partnership with United Way of Greater Kansas City and their dedication to supporting children with visual impairments.

Thanks to their support, and the support of our community and donors, we can continue to serve and empower visually impaired children across the region, just like Daniel!

We are ready for some new adventures!🩵🫧

This year, many our staff are stepping into new roles and we couldn't be more grateful and proud of them! Just as our staff are stepping into new roles and growing in their professions, CCVI as a whole is doing the same. We are looking forward to all the new programs and activities we have planned for the coming year within our building and out in our community. We can't wait to share this adventure with everyone and are excited to see what the school year brings!

Happy National Owl Day to our beloved Mascot: Owlbert!

Let’s Dive into the world of Aquatic Therapy!

As one of CCVI’s most unique resources, our therapeutic pool offers support for both physical and occupational therapy.

For children with visual impairments, aquatic therapy provides rich sensory feedback — the use of moving water increases visual attention and promotes ease of movement in a reduced gravity environment. From physical to emotional benefits to cogitative and social benefits, the advantages of aquatic therapy are endless.

Indoor Splash Time is always a Good Time!🩵

Water play is an awesome learning activity for young children and can be easily accessed in the home using a tub or even a shallow storage container. Adding just a little water, some bubbles and your favorite toys can give your child a sensory rich experience while supporting tactile & auditory experiences and motor development.

*adult supervision is always advised during water play*

Have you even been to a Teddy Bear Picnic?

If not, it's time to plan on for you and your child! At our Teddy Bear Picnic today, our students got to bring their favorite stuffed animals and play around the gym!

🧸Stuffed animals are as emotionally beneficial as they are cute and cuddly! Playing with stuffed animals is a great way for kids to express their emotions and can even help reduce stress and increase emotional comfort.

The best days are pool days! 🩵🫧

Our students had a great time today in the pool and got to enjoy a variety of water activities!

🛟While being in the pool is always fun, there’s also a ton of benefits when it comes to water play! Things such as improved muscle tone, flexibility, pain management, and overall fitness are positively affected.

Today our students got the opportunity to be a little adventurous and touch some frogs, tortoises, a snake and even a gecko!

Mrs. Kelsey went the extra mile to support one of her students’ recent interests in frogs by inviting some special guests into the classroom! Everyone got to be involved and meet these special guests!

Thank you to all our teachers who go above and beyond to encourage our students to explore new things and be adventurous! 🐸
