Today we celebrated the achievements of Dr. James Calvet, University Distinguished Professor and former Director of the Kansas PKD Center. Brenda Magenheimer, Senior Scientist, painted an amazing portrait of Dr. Calvet, which was presented to him at a reception this afternoon. Thank you Dr. Calvet!

The JGKI welcomes our new faculty member: Dr. Kyle Jansson, MD, Assistant Professor, Nephrology. Dr. Jansson is a physician-scientist whose current research is focused on alterations in mineral metabolism and innate immune responses to mineral deposition in the kidney.

Congratulations to JGKI faculty member Dr. Madhulika Sharma on being awarded a PKD Foundation research grant for her project, “The role of ferritin in polycystic kidney disease.”

This year, we awarded new research funding to 11 outstanding PKD researchers along with the second year of research funding for our 2022 awardees. The Research Grant and Fellowship Programs fund critical research to increase understanding of PKD and accelerate the development of new treatments for PKD patients.
