Some milestones deserve an extra‑big celebration — and this family reached two at once. 💙🎓
Hailey and Michael walked into their anatomy scan as excited first‑time parents, but left facing the unknown after learning their baby, Harper, had swollen kidneys caused by urine not draining properly, along with signs of a cloacal anomaly — a rare condition that affects baby girls.
They turned to Children’s Mercy, where a coordinated care plan was created just for them. Hailey would deliver in our Elizabeth J. Ferrell Fetal Health Center, with our NICU team ready the moment Harper arrived.
Harper spent nearly 3 weeks in the NICU, cared for by nurses and providers her parents lovingly call “angels.” She’s now home and will continue follow‑up care with our Colorectal Center, including a reconstructive surgery later this year.
Her family says they’ll be “forever thankful” for the compassion, preparation and expertise that guided them through every step of this journey.
🎉 Help us congratulate Fetal Health Center graduate Hailey and NICU graduate Harper!
We couldn’t be prouder of these two strong girls — and the village that surrounds them. 💙
