Some milestones deserve an extra‑big celebration — and this family reached two at once. 💙🎓

Hailey and Michael walked into their anatomy scan as excited first‑time parents, but left facing the unknown after learning their baby, Harper, had swollen kidneys caused by urine not draining properly, along with signs of a cloacal anomaly — a rare condition that affects baby girls.

They turned to Children’s Mercy, where a coordinated care plan was created just for them. Hailey would deliver in our Elizabeth J. Ferrell Fetal Health Center, with our NICU team ready the moment Harper arrived.

Harper spent nearly 3 weeks in the NICU, cared for by nurses and providers her parents lovingly call “angels.” She’s now home and will continue follow‑up care with our Colorectal Center, including a reconstructive surgery later this year.

Her family says they’ll be “forever thankful” for the compassion, preparation and expertise that guided them through every step of this journey.

🎉 Help us congratulate Fetal Health Center graduate Hailey and NICU graduate Harper!

We couldn’t be prouder of these two strong girls — and the village that surrounds them. 💙

One hour. A single blood donation. Saving a life.

As our community faces a critical blood shortage across Kansas City and nationwide, Children’s Mercy is relying on donors more than ever to help ensure we can deliver the expert, compassionate care kids need — right when they need it.

Every day at Children’s Mercy, donated blood helps kids stay strong during surgeries, treatments and unexpected emergencies. We rely on about 30 transfusions each day, and the need keeps growing — transfusions increased 13.8% between 2021 and 2025.

When you donate blood, you’re giving kids the strength to heal, to play…to get back to being a kid. Thank you for helping us create brighter futures for children across our region. Visit https://cmkc.link/4bLpCs8 to learn more. 🩸💙

A big welcome is in order! 💙Jennifer Murray will join us as senior director for Children’s Mercy with Mercy Hospital Springfield, and we're proud to have her leadership guide this next chapter.

Since launching our joint venture with Mercy in November 2025, we’ve focused on one thing: bringing specialized pediatric care closer to home for families in Springfield and surrounding communities. Jennifer’s arrival is an exciting milestone as that work continues to grow.

With nearly 30 years of neonatal nursing experience and more than 18 years of leadership across women’s, children’s, emergency and behavioral health services, Jennifer brings deep expertise and a genuine heart for kids and families.

And with a new dedicated pediatric outpatient facility now under construction (expected to open this December!), the momentum continues.👏🏼

For Miller’s family, small acts of kindness from their NICU team – like drawing fun designs on his bandages and connecting his big brother with play opportunities during appointments – were what got them through his rocky start to life.

Miller was born with a hole in his heart (atrioventricular septal defect) and his body had to work hard just to eat and grow. After open-heart surgery at 8 months old, he bounced back quickly and is doing great!

Last night, Miller and his family lit the KCTV5 News Kansas City tower in red for heart health awareness and to honor everyone who’s helped them on their journey. ❤️
