💙 Feel Good Friday: A Small Act of Kindness 💙

A few weeks ago, our mobile team met a client who walked over 2 miles with his three dogs—ages 3, 8, and 14—to make it to our mobile vaccination clinic. When it was time for the long walk home, our veterinarian noticed the oldest pup, a sweet 14-year-old named Spike, was exhausted from the long trek.

While we’re only legally allowed to transport pets, we could do something to make Spike’s trip home a little easier. So our mobile vet offered to give Spike the VIP treatment: a comfy, air-conditioned ride in the front seat of our Transit. 🚐💨

Spike was all tail wags when he reunited with his dad at home. And his dad was so grateful, he’s been doing everything he can to care for his pups. These are the moments that remind us why we do what we do. Here’s to kindness, community, and looking out for both pets and the people who love them. Happy Feel Good Friday! 💓

We’re so thankful for our amazing donors, clients, staff, and supporters who make our lifesaving work possible every day. We couldn’t continue on our mission of providing affordable, compassionate vet care for all without you.

🍂 Thanksgiving Pet Safety Tips! 🐾
Turkey Day is almost here, and we know those puppy dog eyes are powerful… but keeping pets safe is even more important! Here are a few easy reminders:

🦴 Skip these Dangerous Foods:
No cooked turkey or chicken bones (they splinter!), no chocolate, no grapes/raisins, no garlic or onions, and please look out for desserts like pies and other baked goods with XYLITOL! Even a small amount can be FATAL to dogs!

🍗 Watch the Table Scraps:
If you want to share a taste, stick to truly pet-safe options like a small bite of plain turkey (no skin, no seasoning), plain green beans, or a little mashed sweet potato without butter, sugar, or spices.

🤫 Give Them a Calm Space:
Holiday chaos can be a lot. Set up a quiet, cozy spot where your pet can relax away from guests and noise.

🐾 Check Their ID:
With visitors coming and going, make sure tags and microchip info are up-to-date—just in case someone tries to make a sneaky escape.

Friendly reminder before the holidays that our urgent care clinic will be CLOSED today and our main clinic as well as our urgent care will be CLOSED tomorrow, 11/27, for Thanksgiving! 🦃 Our main clinic will reopen on Friday, 11/28, and our urgent care will reopen on Monday, 12/1.

If your pet requires veterinary assistance during that time please contact your nearest emergency or full service veterinarian. Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving! 🧡

We are over the moon grateful to our friend Scott Poore at On A Mission KC for spreading so much love with this donation drive! Now our outreach pups who live outdoors can stay warm AND stylish thanks to these Carhartt coats! We did a quick photo shoot with some staff pet's as models but can’t wait to see these coats on the dogs who need them most! 🧡🐾

We’re hosting a Pet Toy Drive to bring some holiday cheer to pets in need and we need your help!

How you can donate:
- At our mobile events: We’ll have a donation station at each location. Check our page or prckc.org to see where and when our mobile team will be at!
- At our clinic: 5829 Troost Ave, KCMO, Monday–Friday, 8 AM – 4 PM.

We’re collecting:
🧸Toys (our biggest need!)
🧣Coats
🛌Beds
🐕Leashes, collars, harnesses
💦Bowls
🐾Food/Treats
And anything else that helps pets feel loved this holiday season! {All donations should be new or gently used.}

Staff Spotlight: Katie!

Katie is a true powerhouse on our team! During her transition to full-time in the call center, she’s been helping out everywhere from answering calls and assisting at the front desk to lending a hand with teching!

She’s always ready to jump in wherever she’s needed, taking on big responsibilities like managing communications with all the rescue groups we work with. On top of that, Katie helps us all stay clean, organized, and running smoothly behind the scenes!

Declawing cats may seem like a quick fix, but did you know…

🐾 Declawing amputates a cat’s toes at the first joint, causing significant pain and increasing the risk of infection, nerve damage, and long-term mobility issues.
🐾 It often doesn’t solve the problem that owners are trying to fix — and can create new issues like biting, fearfulness, or avoiding the litter box.
🐾 Cats depend on their claws for balance, stretching, and self-defense, making declawing especially dangerous.
🐾 It’s also illegal in many countries and several U.S. states, reflecting how harmful the procedure truly is.

Scratching can definitely be frustrating, but there are safe, effective, and humane alternatives: regular nail trims, scratching posts, training, and soft nail caps. Let’s keep our feline friends happy, safe, and healthy! 🐾❤️
