Meet Sterling Clarence. For years, Sterling lived his life in a backyard on a chain, full time. No couch. No toys. No warmth. Just existing...

Until one person decided to do something.

Our staff member Teri stepped in and worked with Sterling’s owners to safely surrender him. She then brought Sterling to our clinic, where our team gave him a full exam and created a care plan to help him truly thrive. At 9 years old, Sterling had been living outdoors and without proper care for a while, but it was far from too late for a new beginning.

Teri didn’t stop there. She found Sterling a foster… who quickly became his forever foster! Their bond is undeniable. Now Sterling is finally living the life he was always meant to have. Indoors full-time, soaking up every cozy moment as a professional couch potato. He loves toys, treats, and spending time with his Weimaraner cousin, who comes over to play. He’s safe, loved, and reaping all the spoils of his new life.

Sterling Clarence’s story is proof that one person choosing to act can change everything. And because of that choice, this sweet pup is finally experiencing what every dog deserves. 💙

⚠️EXTREME COLD ALERT: THESE TEMPERATURES ARE DEADLY FOR PETS⚠️

The temperatures over the next few days are dangerous and life-threatening for ALL animals. Exposure to extreme cold can lead to frostbite, hypothermia, organ failure, and death.

If you see an animal left outside for an extended period of time, please, say something!
📞 If you live in KCMO, call 311
📞 If you do not live in KCMO, call your local animal control
📞 If you believe a pet's life is in immediate danger, call 911

❗ IMPORTANT: SURRENDERING AN ANIMAL ❗
If you are coming to our clinic to surrender an animal, please do NOT leave them outside our clinic unattended! We know asking for help can be hard, but leaving a pet unattended places them at serious risk, especially in these temperatures.

IF WE ARE OPEN:
• Please come inside and speak with our front desk team. No judgment. We are here to help.
• Do not leave pets tied, boxed, or left outdoors unattended.

IF WE ARE CLOSED:
• Do NOT leave animals outside our building. Leaving pets unattended in this weather is extremely dangerous!
• If a pet has already been left and you cannot stay, message us on Facebook right away so we can locate them and keep them safe.

OTHER SAFE OPTIONS FOR YOUR PET
If you need immediate assistance, please consider contacting:
• Your local animal control or shelter

No pet deserves to suffer alone in the cold. Please choose safety. Please choose compassion.

Last week, while out on our weekly outreach route providing vaccines and vital resources for pets whose families are experiencing homelessness, our incredible volunteers decided to make the day even more special! 💙

As a surprise, they brought pup cups for all the doggies and the joy on their faces says it all! 😋🍦

It’s the little things like this that make such a big difference. Moments of kindness and fun don’t just impact the pets we serve, but the people who love them too. This is exactly why our volunteers are some of the most amazing humans. Thank you for always going the extra mile to make a pet and their person smile. 🥰

✨Fairy-Tails Ball Spotlight: Carrie Lippert-Gillaspie✨

We are so excited to share that Carrie Lippert Gillaspie will be one of the co-hosts of our Fairy-Tails Ball and she’s also generously serving on our event committee!

Carrie has been a huge supporter of The Pet Resource Center of Kansas City for years. From regularly welcoming us onto her morning show, Great Day KC on FOX4 News Kansas City, to rolling up her sleeves and volunteering at our spay and neuter clinics and joining us on days out with our outreach team, her support goes far beyond the spotlight!

Her passion for pets and commitment to our mission means the world to us, and we are incredibly grateful to have her energy, heart, and voice helping make this year’s Fairy-Tails Ball so special. 💙

✨ Volunteer Spotlight: Marcos✨

Some volunteers feel like part of the foundation of this organization, and Marcos is absolutely one of them!

Marcos has been volunteering with us since 2014, back when we were Spay and Neuter Kansas City. Over the years, he’s done just about everything: helping at vaccination clinics, supporting our outreach team, lending a hand in urgent care, and stepping in wherever help was needed most. If there’s a place where pets and people need support, chances are Marcos has been there.

Most recently, Marcos spent time volunteering in Urgent Care using Volunteer Time Off (VTO) hours provided through his workplace. VTO allows employees to volunteer during work hours while still being paid and it can make a huge difference for nonprofits like ours that rely on hands-on support.

If you’ve ever wanted to volunteer but struggled to find the time, we encourage you to check with your employer to see if VTO is an option. Those hours can directly translate into lifesaving care for pets in our community!

Marcos, thank you for more than a decade of dedication, compassion, and showing up wherever you’re needed. We are so grateful for your endless support and love to PRC! 💙🐾 Interested in getting involved? Learn more at prckc.org/volunteer!

Big dog? Big savings. 🐕💙

If you have a large-breed dog and are looking into spay or neuter surgery, cost can quickly become a barrier. Most clinics price surgeries by weight, which means larger dogs often come with a much higher price tag.

That’s where we come in. At The Pet Resource Center of Kansas City, we offer some of the most affordable spay and neuter prices in the area. Even better, our medical team regularly works with large-breed dogs, so your pet is in experienced, capable hands from start to finish.

Affordable care shouldn’t mean compromising on quality. We’re equipped, qualified, and ready to care for dogs of all sizes. 🐾 Schedule your large dog’s spay or neuter with confidence at prckc.org!

What an incredible day with our animal welfare partners giving back to our community! 💓

Yesterday we joined forces for the 5th annual Project Pet Warmth with Great Plains SPCA, KC Pet Project, The Rescue Project, Heart of America Humane Society, Heal KCorg, the Animal Services Department of KCMO and Wayside Waifs to provide free, life-saving resources for pet owners. Vehicles left packed to the brim with food, treats, toys, dog houses, beds, coats, bowls, and so much more! Many households had several pets, each receiving the resources they needed.

The gratitude from the pet owners and their pets was truly heartwarming, some owners even leaving with tears in their eyes. It was amazing to see so many organizations come together to ensure these pets and their families have what they need to thrive. 💙
