We are in need of a few very important items! 🐾

Right now, we are especially in need of:
• Leashes
• Large (LG) and Extra-Large (XLG) collars
• Large (LG) and Extra-Large (XLG) harnesses
• Dog treats
• XL dog houses

If your pet has an old leash or collar they no longer use, we know a few pets who could really use one! Gently used items in good condition are always appreciated.

If you’d like to help, donations can be dropped off in person or purchased online and shipped directly to us through Amazon.

Have you ever heard that Chow Chow dogs have purple tongues? It’s true! 💜🐾

One of the most unique things about the Chow Chow is their signature blue-purple tongue! While most dogs have pink tongues, this breed stands out because of extra pigmentation in the tissue of their tongue, a trait passed down through genetics.

Fun fact: Chow Chow puppies are actually born with pink tongues, and as they grow, that famous purple-blue color develops over time. Even more interesting, the Shar Pei is the only other dog breed widely known for naturally having this same blue-purple tongue trait!

Guten Tag, Kansas City!

We’re looking for fun-loving folks to help us out at KC Oktoberfest and this year, we’re working the kids' area with inflatables, craft tables, and games!

- Volunteers work 5hr shifts and earn $15/hr plus tips, and every dollar goes directly to PRCKC!

It takes a community—and we're so lucky to have ours!

Throughout this week, we've celebrated just a few of the many ways our volunteers show up—at drive-thru clinics, outreach events, pet food pantry nights, and behind the scenes in our clinic.

Every role matters. Every shift makes a difference. And every volunteer plays a part in helping us keep pets and people together. 💚

Feel Good Friday: Visiting An Old Friend!

Last week, our team took a little time out of a busy day to go visit a really special friend, Richard.

Richard has been a client at Pet Resource Center for years, trusting us with his best buddy, Champ. We were there for Champ’s heartworm treatment and for so many moments after that—vaccines, food, urgent care… whatever Champ needed, Richard knew we were just a text away.

Last year, Richard had to make the incredibly hard decision to say goodbye to Champ as his health declined. We were there with him through it all.

And that relationship doesn’t just end there. Months later, we still check in on Richard because he’s part of our PRC family.

We recently shared Richard and Champ’s story on a sign for our annual gala, and we wanted to make sure he had it. When we surprised him with it, he surprised us right back with a card expressing his gratitude for everything over the years.

This is what it’s all about. 🥰

As we continue Volunteer Appreciation Week, today we are celebrating the incredible volunteers who help us meet our community where they are. 🐾

Our outreach and community event volunteers support events across the Kansas City area, helping connect pet owners with resources, services, and support. Whether it is at community events, pop ups, outreach clinics, or through partnerships like Uplift, they play a key role in expanding our reach beyond the clinic walls.
