This is why we have long handled ladles. The löyly is the hot steamy air coming off the stones. You can run your sauna hot and dry but you’re missing the health benefits created from the steam. And the hotter your sauna, the quicker the steam condenses out of the air. It’s a temporary spike in humidity, up, then right back down. And you benefit. Gravel in a wall acts like a ball bearing. Slip and slide and down goes your wall. Good hearting in a dry stack wall is larger than gravel, solid angular stone, placed intentionally and packed tightly.
