Kelbe Yoga

Kelbe Yoga Kelbe Yoga offers workshops, classes and private classes in different movement modalities. Kristen Kelbe’s yoga practice started twenty years ago.

After working through the physical setbacks of two herniated discs at 18 years old, yoga was a part of her physical therapy. Initially, Kristen was drawn to yoga to build strength and gain flexibility. She quickly realized the mental benefits of yoga as well. Time on her mat brought her peace, hope and strength. Yoga has been and continues to be a life-changing journey for her. Kristen began studying the practice and philosophy of ashtanga yoga in 2013. She enjoyed taking her knowledge of yoga to the next level including the anatomical focus of the poses. She spent five weeks in Costa Rica in 2015 obtaining her 200 hour vinyasa yoga teacher certification through Yoga Alliance. Kristen is also certified to teach kids yoga through Kidding Around Yoga. In 2015, Kristen fell in love with AcroYoga. AcroYoga is a partner based practice that blends acrobatics, yoga and healing arts. Kristen spent five weeks in Thailand in the beginning of 2017 to earn her teacher certification for AcroYoga and immerse herself in the world of Thai Massage. Every time Kristen rolls out her mat, she is reminded that life is meant to be full of joy, peace and happiness. She loves sharing the joy that yoga has brought her in hopes to enrich the lives of others and help them find that inner peace.

Dear page,
I’m sorry I have been neglecting you. I’m working on enjoying life instead of keeping up with all of the social media platforms. ☺️

Here’s an update for Kelbe Yoga though: I’ve started BASI Pilates teacher training. I got super into Pilates two years ago working through an injury and it has helped me tremendously. I’m excited to learn more about the body, it’s mechanics and how to move it methodically through these exercises both on the mat and on the fancy machines.

Share the things that heal you 💖

The studio is committed to taking care of our local community. If you are a new Kauai resident or here for a few months and have completed the 10 day quarantine, you are welcome to join Kristen Kelbe's classes.
Please do not come to the studio if you have traveled, including inter-island, or if anyone in your home has traveled in the last 7 days, for the safety of the students. Mahalo!

Hello yogis! It’s time for an update on Kelbe Yoga offerings for the North Shore of Kaua’i. 😁 I will be teaching at Black Coral Yoga & Movement in Hanalei Bay two days a week as we continue to navigate the new bridge schedule and accessibility to the bay after the landslide in March. I’ll be leading:

Mondays: Vinyasa 11:30am - 12:30pm
Wednesdays: Vinyasa 8:30 - 9:30am
and Hatha Flow 11:30am - 12:30pm

I hope to connect with more of the Hanalei and HaEna community during this time. Natural disasters are no fun for anyone. Practices to keep our mind, body and souls happy definitely help. I’m grateful for the opportunity to offer a bit of time to those who may want to join us in class.

In•ter•de•pen•dence - the dependence of two or more people or things on each other.
Recently, I have been reading Nonviolent Communication (which is a fantastic book). It has a section that talks about basic human needs. There are some that we can provide for ourselves like creativity, fun and rest. There are others that are based off of interdependence: acceptance, appreciation, closeness, community, consideration, emotional safety, empathy, honesty, love, reassurance, respect, support, trust, understanding and warmth. This is a pretty substantial list of needs that come from relationships.
This year we have all had new restrictions on our lives: who we are able to see and spend quality time with and how often we can be with them. We have also spent more time than usual with ourselves or at home with our partners and family. However, our basic needs haven’t changed.
For me, I just moved 6,000 miles to a place that I didn’t know anybody. I look at the list and think “Man, that is a lot of me to ask of my partner.. to provide me with all of those things.”
I imagine your story and mine may be different but there are some similarities in the bottom line. We have all had stressors on our relationships. We all could use some lifting up.
How can we make a conscious effort to provide our friends and loved ones with these needs? Look back through the list. I invite you to help somebody meet their needs today. It may even help meet some of yours too. 💖
