NOT ALL VET CARE IS CREATED EQUAL

You’ve probably heard the phrase “gold standard” care.

But here’s the truth no one likes to say out loud:
Gold standard doesn’t always mean best.

It might mean the longest, most expensive, most clinical pathway.
It might mean 6 consults, 4 rounds of diagnostics, a referral, a surgery, and $8,000 later…
Only to land back at square one, with a stressed animal and an exhausted human.

Some pets don’t need a textbook solution.
Some owners can’t afford one.
Some problems call for nuance, not a checklist.

True gold standard care isn’t about doing everything.
It’s about doing what’s right, for the animal, the family, and the context they live in.

If a vet makes you feel guilty for saying “no” to more tests or pushing back on another referral, that’s not gold standard. That’s ego.

The best care is honest, collaborative, and deeply humane.

Here’s the Laulima Tshirt! Logo designed by this guy, our program director, Rodwin. There’s a lot of “work together” elements in it, but our favorite part is that all of our volunteers are listed by name in the rings outside. ❤️❤️
