Zoey is an incredibly sweet and loving girl who came to us after struggling with lameness in her back legs for a whole year. Her family had already consulted a specialist surgeon in town, who confirmed that she had torn both of her ACLs—a painful condition that made every step a challenge.
When we examined Zoey, we found fluid buildup in both knees and classic signs of instability, including a positive cranial drawer sign and tibial thrust. Radiographs confirmed what we suspected: her knee joints were unstable due to torn cruciate ligaments.
In January, Zoey underwent bilateral TPLO surgery at our hospital—an advanced procedure that stabilizes the knee by adjusting the angle of the shin bone. This helps prevent excessive movement and allows her to move comfortably again.
At her 10-day recheck, we discovered a surgical site infection—likely from some sneaky wound licking! But Zoey is a fighter. After a course of broad-spectrum antibiotics and a few rounds of laser therapy, she is back on track and healing beautifully.
And the best news? We get to see Zoey again in two weeks. She’ll begin physical therapy on our underwater treadmill, helping her build muscle strength and conditioning to and regain full mobility. At the 8-week mark, she’ll have follow-up radiographs to ensure her bones are healing perfectly.
We can’t wait to see her progress—Zoey is well on her way to living her best, pain-free life! Stay tuned for updates on this resilient girl’s road to recovery! 💪🐶✨
