Social Connections-Applied Behavior Analysis Services

Social Connections-Applied Behavior Analysis Services Social Connections Learning Center- Katy, LLC provides quality ABA Therapy Services for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Social Connections mission is to produce long lasting behavior change, by incorporating meaningful learning experiences. Behavioral artistry is a skill to be practiced and learned through intensive training by those best in the art. Social Connections model focuses on having highly skilled Behavior Analysts provide direct training to our staff in a way that they can follow the overall client goals, while adjusting teaching strategies in the moment to meet the clients needs. We believe in a progressive approach of ABA that is structured, but flexible in its treatment application and promotes the skill of behavioral artistry. By allowing flexibility for our staff, our clients can move through targets in a manner that is based on their pace of learning rather than a traditional method of following strict protocols that may limit learning that is commonly implemented across other approaches. Our therapy goals evolve and change daily based on the clients responses. We avoid having the same exact targets and goals be practiced for excessive periods of time. We believe in spending time teaching, and observing our learners in the moment to make decisions to help our learners be successful on their next opportunity rather than spending time excessively collecting data to show the progress that our clients are making. Although data is important, it should not interfere with time that can be utilized for teaching opportunities. We want our staff to be more focused on their client and not so concerned with following a step by step therapy protocol on an Ipad. We feel that by addressing core deficits associated with our clients' diagnosis that are functional and practical based on each individual's needs and desires is for the greater good. When addressing such needs our clients can make informed decisions and live practical and meaningful lives. Our approach is backed by the latest research in the field of ABA. Our directors have extensive training and collaboration with Autism Partnership and Autism Partnership Foundation, one of the leading providers and research agencies in the world.

At Social Connections-Applied Behavior Analysis Services we value providing quality intervention.
This chapter highlights some of the characteristics we look for when interviewing candidates to join our team!

"Appropriately trained behavior interventionists are truly analysts; rather than merely carrying out a protocol, they must analyze behavior and environment interactions moment by moment. Analysts take into account critical learning variables, such as the child’s current motivation, responsiveness, and behaviors that may signal emotional states and contingencies. They assess the current functions of behavior and determine if disruptive behaviors are potentially operant or respondent. They identify the optimal shaping and prompting strategies based upon past and present performance as well as the importance and difficulty of the tasks. Critical factors also include the child’s nonverbal behaviors (e.g., facial expressions and body language) and the child’s physical state. In effect, during intervention they are shaped by clear goal specification, knowledge of principles, scientific method, and current environmental contingencies, instead of rigid adherence to unresponsive protocols. They are able to achieve more rapid change in behavior by following the intent of the protocol rather than being bound to the letter of the protocol." (p. 721)

CASP and Association of Professional Behavior Analysts have jointly released The Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) Assessment Guidelines for Behavior Analysts. https://www.casproviders.org/assessment-guidelines

This resource is intended to support ethical, effective assessments of clients with autism. The guidelines will help ABA practitioners select, design, and administer standardized instruments to identify:

- Core symptoms and autism characteristics.
- Adaptive functioning.
- Wellbeing and quality of life.
- Co-occurring health conditions.

The guidelines also describe behavior analysts’ ethical obligations to:

- Maximize client benefit.
- Minimize potential harm.
- Consider clients’ unique needs, circumstances, and resources.

Along with the guidelines, CASP and APBA have produced an interactive, online tool to aid practitioners in implementing the right assessments. The tool will be made available in the near future.
