This is a great way to phrase it!
We’ve all said it without thinking: “You’re okay.”
But the truth is… sometimes they’re not.
That’s why I love replacing it with:
👉 “Is your body hurt, or are your feelings hurt?”
It does two powerful things at once:
1️⃣ It teaches kids the difference between physical pain and emotional pain.
2️⃣ It shows them both kinds of pain matter.
When we tell a crying child “You’re okay,” we shut down their chance to express what’s really going on. But when we ask instead, we open the door to trust, communication, and emotional awareness.
Because kids don’t just need us to fix the scraped knee..
They need us to see the hurt heart, too. 💛
