National Food Pantry day was September 5th. Here at Homestead our resident's decided to lend a helping hand and held a food drive. Staff, residents and their families all pitched in and partnered up with Community Action Program here in Kearney. The ladies from Community Action were so appreciative for our donation and wanted to thank our Homestead family for giving back to the community.

To all of our cherished Homestead Family,
We want to thank each and every person who attended our annual Family BBQ this past weekend. Without all of you, we could have never had such a wonderful turn out. We thank our families for letting their loved one be our family as well. We had special music played by Paul Seibert. If you haven't seen him, we recommend that you do. And from the very bottom of my heart, A HUGE SHOUT OUT to any one person that helped set up, cook, serve, clean up, or donated to this event. Thank you for making this years BBQ a success! Can't wait to see you all at Thanksgiving!

Homestead of Kearney will be holding a food drive to partner up with Community Action Partnership here in Kearney for their local food pantry. September 5 is National Food Pantry Day. We as a community have decided to do our part. We will be collecting items listed on the poster. Collections are being taken now until September 4th at the Homestead of Kearney location. Our goal is 400 items to donate. Please help us reach this goal. We are asking for donations from all staff and residents as well as their families that are able to help a good cause. God Bless you all.

Our Homesteaders are very up to date with everything Olympics. So we decided to have our own Senior Olympic games. We had some serious competition in noodle volleyball, shuffleboard and pong cup. Everyone received gold medals (Rolo candy) and a handmade jar opener for participating. We then treated ourselves to an ice cream bar with many toppings to celebrate all of our hard work.

We enjoyed a simple craft and designed some fun American Flag Wreaths to hang on our doors. We used clothes pins and painted them red, white and blue to resemble the flag. One fun fact the residents appreciated about these wreaths was that we used 13 blue clothes pins to represent the original 13 colonies. Such a fun little craft to get us ready for Memorial Day.

We celebrated Cinco De Mayo a day late but fun was still had by all. We enjoyed some music from that culture as well as some food. We made mini tacos, salsa, guacamole dip, and some Mexican street corn dip. We danced the conga in a line as well as breaking a piñata. We shared a non alcoholic margarita punch and had many laughs together.

The students from Hanny Arram Center for Success come to visit us once a month. They enjoy spending time with the residents and our residents enjoy the students just as much. The students painted flower pots and planted a flower for each one of our residents. They even delivered them door to door. We sure are going to miss this special group of kids this summer.

The residents were excited to fill candy bags in anticipation of egg hunters. Some of our residents enjoy to dress for the occasion and we look forward to what they will come up with next. The egg hunt was a success as we had many family members and friends attend this year. The kids were surprised to have a guest visit from the Easter Bunny. The staff and residents had a blessed Easter holiday and we thank all the families and friends that helped make it all possible!
