Oak Pointe of Kearney is a senior living community that was intentionally designed to meet the unique needs of older adults. With both assisted living and memory care services, residents have their choice of purposefully designed studios or one- or two-bedroom private apartments, each of which include a full bathroom, kitchenette, emergency call response, fire safety system, and individualized heating and cooling. The building also features a beautiful dining room, ground level courtyard, full-service salon, computer room, fitness center, on-site rehabilitation center, and much more.

Thanks Clay County Parks and Recreation for coming out and doing a *fantastic* presentation on all sorts of different animals!

We learned a lot about various mammals in the area, insects, birds, amphibians, and reptiles. It was fun to see salamanders, skinks, turtles, and a few snakes as well (even if some ran from the show before that last guest…).

It’s always fun to keep learning new things, and we appreciate Xavier and Carlos coming to such an interesting program.

Striiiiiiike! 🎳

Our wonderful residents in Memory Support had an afternoon on the lanes with a bit of bowling. We took time lining up our shots, pulling back, and letting the balls fly.

We had a great time cheering each other on for our strikes and spares, and loved our friendly competition!

We hosted our own Winter Olympic Games today over at Kearney and guess what? Team USA won all the gold!

We had a riveting game of balloon hockey with our two teams getting really fired up to get past the goalies. 🏒🥅

We also took aim with our own snowball toss to try and improve our accuracy ❄️

We tried our hand at rubber duck luge races, but despite it working in a test round, the main event had the ducks unwilling to move, reminding us that sometimes you fail, but you can still have fun with the process! 🛷

Finally, we tried our hand at some freestyle ski jumps! Check out the comments to see the tricks our family pulled off on the slopes! ⛷️

We had a blast celebrating Valentine’s Day together! Not only did we have some great snacks brought in, but an outpouring of love from the community and all of the groups that brought in Valentines!

Tomorrow is our Valentine’s Day party and I asked our resident poet, Nancy, if she would write a poem for the party. She did. I thought I’d share it a day early here.

It was a reminder to me that the majority of people celebrating tomorrow will be widows and widowers. A day for many of love that’s been lost. But Nancy’s poem is a great reminder that love is never really lost. Sometimes it’s more of a memory, but remembered love is still a powerful thing. That love doesn’t end, it just comes from a different place.

So thank you Nancy for a poem that both breaks and mends our hearts. That’s willing to look into the wound caused by losing our dearly beloved, but reminds us that there is always love to be enjoyed:

My Valentine!
Forget you? But forgetting
Could never be for long
Only until with daybreak
I hear a robin’s song.
Forget! I dare not promise-
I haven’t any choice
When little brooks in woodland
Remind me of your voice
When through a blooming
Meadow I walk a golden mile
As radiant dawn- or sunset
Remind me of your smile
All precious things, long
Cherished, which once we shared,
Must bring, not moments
Of forgetting,

Not only did they play and help our wonderful residents, they also raised money to buy the prizes we could win through a bake sale.
