๐ŸŒŸ Congratulations to Karin Asseng, MA, for being named our Medical Assistant of the Year!

Asseng has worked as a Mohs technician in our Dermatology Department for five years. Her nominators describe her as a quiet leader, with the knowledge and ability to lead and mentor others.

"Her demeanor is calming and she quickly puts patients and families at ease. Karin is a hardworking, easy going, pleasant and vital member of the Mohs team. It would be difficult to function for long without her."

Olivia Tasho, MPAS, PA-C, of our Dermatology team was recently on a flight to Rome when flight attendants asked if a medical provider was aboard the plane.

She met them in the middle of the plane, where a man was curled over and vomiting. With the help of another provider, she was able to rule out any serious diagnoses, like heart attack, stroke or internal bleeding.

Tasho determined the passenger was likely having a vasovagal response, caused by a combination of dehydration, the long plane ride and an overall hot environment. She was able to get the man into a seat, give him anti-nausea medications and have him sip water. Within 20 minutes, he was feeling better.

โ€œMy PA school training, as well as my excellent ER rotation training from Cheshire, was an immense help โ€ฆ ,โ€ Tasho said. โ€œI was able to remain calm and really think quickly to make sure this patient did not have something more serious.โ€

Thank you SERVPRO of Cheshire County for donating new smoke and carbon monoxide detectors for our Women and Children's Health Unit patients to take home!

To support Fire Prevention Month, SERVPRO is distributing these detectors to medical facilities, specifically those with birthing centers, across its service areas in southwestern New Hampshire and southern and central Vermont.

"Our goal is to provide new families with a free, brand-new detector to help keep their homes and loved ones safe," said Vice President Derek Paul.

๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป This Spiritual Care Week, meet Rev. Johan Ostlund, M.Div, our new interfaith chaplain!

Ostlund has worked in spiritual care for a decade, with previous positions within the Dartmouth Health system. Interfaith chaplains provide spiritual and emotional support to patients, families and staff from diverse religious, spiritual and non-religious backgrounds.

โ€œI feel incredibly privileged to get to meet patients right where they are,โ€ Ostlund said, โ€œwithout an agenda or need for them to be different.โ€

Weโ€™ve been hearing from patients who have received a notice about their 2026 Medicare Advantage coverage.

Several Medicare Advantage insurers have announced they will no longer offer plans in New Hampshire and Vermont starting in 2026. These are business decisions made by the insurance carriers, not by Dartmouth Health.

Although this is outside of Dartmouth Healthโ€™s control, we are providing external resource support for our patients and the community.
