Olivia Tasho, MPAS, PA-C, of our Dermatology team was recently on a flight to Rome when flight attendants asked if a medical provider was aboard the plane.
She met them in the middle of the plane, where a man was curled over and vomiting. With the help of another provider, she was able to rule out any serious diagnoses, like heart attack, stroke or internal bleeding.
Tasho determined the passenger was likely having a vasovagal response, caused by a combination of dehydration, the long plane ride and an overall hot environment. She was able to get the man into a seat, give him anti-nausea medications and have him sip water. Within 20 minutes, he was feeling better.
โMy PA school training, as well as my excellent ER rotation training from Cheshire, was an immense help โฆ ,โ Tasho said. โI was able to remain calm and really think quickly to make sure this patient did not have something more serious.โ
