May is Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month. Did you know that 1 in 5 new moms experience some form of perinatal mood and anxiety disorder?
This is an area of mental health that I have grown passionate about as a mom myself and especially being postpartum. I recognize the challenges and pressures moms experience because I’ve been there. There is an invisible load that is put on moms while being expected to prioritize the care of other’s needs above their own. I encourage women to feel comfortable and empowered to speak up, connect with friends, seek help and gain support.
I want to also highlight the impact that the journey to motherhood can bring to a woman’s mental health. So many of us have experienced some form of infertility or loss and my heart is with you. If this is you understand you are not alone and please seek help. Do not walk through the pain alone. Share it with someone.
