What a sweet vbac, and quite fast and furious, I might add.
At 11 pm, I got the first text from this client stating that she had a two contractions that were five minutes a part. No later than 10 minutes, I received a call. Contractions were three to four minutes a part. We headed to the hospital and baby was born by 1:03 am. The most incredible part of this birth was watching her deliver, while standing and leaning over the end of the bed, with the hospital midwife sitting on the floor, catching baby. It’s a treasure to see these kids of births in the hospital, and it shows it can be done with a solid team!

This baby was birthed with such grace, while dad and team supported her. The best moment, however, was when I looked over at dad reading the scriptures to his new baby and praying over him. There are many touching moments that I am privileged to see as a doula. This is one of my top!

There are some births that truly touch my soul and this was one of them. This mom hired me later in her pregnancy. She was shooting for a vbac delivery, but her doctor was not open to a trial of labor after 40 weeks and wished to c-section her if not in labor by that time. After working through birth education and giving some guidance, she attempted to switch to a wonderful doctor group at another local hospital, however, because of insurance navigation, and timing of gestation, it wasn’t possible. So, this mom decided to skip her scheduled c-section and at 41 weeks walked into the other hospital as a walk-in with her records, and in early labor!! The birth was not straightforward, but the level of care from the doctors, residents, and nurses far surpassed her expectations. She got her vbac too ,with full team collaboration, coupled with her incredible strength.

Informed consent is essential and should be the norm. If you’re not feeling you’re that you’re receiving it, it’s never too late to switch to providers who will. We definately have some of the best in the area!!

I had the pleasure of assisting this couple for both of their babies. The first was long and strong and the second was weeks of prodromal labor and then a fast and furious natural birth once labor finally kicked in. The staff at Dallas Presbeterian were respectful and her doctor, Dr Telford, patiently sat across the room as she labored beautifully in the positions that felt right to her.

It always makes me so happy when I get a call from a repeat client! The relationship formed when in the trenches with someone can be life-long. Love this family!

This couple is SO special to me. Words cannot express how much I love them (and their family, who now feel like extended family). I’ve been with them for two babies, the second being at a birth center, where she was able to deliver in the tub with one of our favorite midwives in the world from Midwife and Co. On this morning, the sun rose and the light was beautifully flooding in, capturing the beauty of this birth so much more.

Moms labor so differently. This mom I will call the “polite laborer,” saying hello at 10 centimeters when someone would walk into the room. Even in labor, I find her to be one of the most gracious people I’ve ever known. Blessings on you little one. You have one of the best mamas in the world!

This fourth time mom wanted her first natural birth and she got it. Through labor there were laughs, lots of moving in and out of positions, and incredible strength to get baby to her chest. It was such an honor to work alongside such a strong woman, as well as Dr. Hughs and the incredible team from Baylor All Saints!

This mama is precious to me. I’ve supported her through three births. She always knows exactly what she wants and does birth exactly how she wants to. Her best friend is her OB and delivers her babies and her nurse’s family went to school with her. It was such a treasured space, as it seemed like a close knit group from nurses to doctor to me working together to support her. Another great birth at Baylor All Saints with Dr. Rogers!

The moment of joy and relief once baby is to chest.

This first time mom showed incredible strength throughout her labor. This family means the world to me and I’m so proud of her perseverance through the fears and struggles. Baby H, I was honored to witness such grit in your mom. I’m also so proud to have doulad your aunt twice and know your family well. ❤️
