Well, that’s six births in 10 days with a set of two together and another set of two together. I just escaped driving on these roads on Friday at midnight, but wouldn’t you know it, I was called out overnight to a speedy birth to which I could not speed. 😂. God is good though. I made every single birth and have almost made it home in one piece by avoiding bridges and ramps to downtown Fort Worth and back. Babies could care less about the weather and love to make birth workers actually sweat because they all love to come at the same time in a storm. God bless every midwife, doula, nurse, and doctor serving all of these mamas no matter what. 🙏

January has been quite a journey! Five births in eight days. Two (and maybe three, making six births, when it’s all said and done) were born just on the cusp of the winter storm. God is the ultimate chess player and always aligns things how they should go, but I’m not going to lie, I think I was just a teeny bit nervous when my third mama called, as temps began to fall, and after I’d been up for 40 plus hours. He worked it all out.

Congrats to the super speedy mama, whose baby I almost delivered, and came between another mama. Congrats to the mama who showed strength and endurance over two days and two nights. Congrats to the mama last Monday, who conquered fears from her first birth and delivered her second beautifully, and congrats to the two mamas before her, delivering on the same date. Yes, I was a ALL of them!

It’s certainly been exciting and it’s not quite over. Pray for the last January mama, that her birth is after the ice melts and is the sweetest and most favored birth!

* Your milk contains stem cells, which can go on to become heart, kidney, or brain tissue
* One of the best ways to treat cracked ni***es is to put your own milk on them. Coconut and olive oils work better than most store bought balms/creams
* Evening breast milk contains more melatonin—a hormone to help baby sleep. Night milk is lower in water and higher in fat to help baby sleep and grow
* The taste of breast milk changes slightly based on your diet. This helps babies get used to different tastes to prepare them to eat a variety of solid foods
*The taste changes and the flow and volume of milk can drop during your period, making some babies become fussy around that time or the month
* Most babies suck stronger and longer to the taste of garlic in breast milk than to any other flavor you eat
* Continue to breastfeed even if you’re sick. When sick, your body makes antibodies that pass on to baby, reducing their risk of getting sick
* Colostrum contains 10x more beta-carotene than mature breast milk. It has increased levels of vitamin E and zinc to promote a newborn’s skin and eye development
* “Good bacteria” are constantly transferred from your body to your milk; the precise strains of bacteria fluctuate daily and from season to season
* Your milk has a unique smell that your baby can identify. The smell is similar to your amniotic fluid. This helps baby find the breast after birth
*Speaking of smells, your body odor may be more pungent after birth. This helps baby recognize you as mom and distinguish you from other adults
* Breastfeeding promotes proper mouth development. Studies have found that babies who were exclusively breastfed for the first six months were less likely to have teeth alignment issues such as open bites, crossbites, and overbites, than those exclusively breastfed for shorter lengths of time or not at all
*Pumping is breastfeeding, too

In May, I had a decision to make: Either go back into pharmaceutical sales full-time or take my doula business to a new level. After prayer and my love for my people I support and also work with, I chose to expand my doula buisness. This is only the first step. Other arms will come in the coming year/s that involve mentorships (which are so very needed in our community), AI (which is completely new territory), and expansion. So thankful the Lord connected me with smart people to help with these goals. It’s fun growing something I am truly passionate about! Thanks to the providers who consistently refer me and thank you to all of my wonderful clients through the years who helped me gain the experience I currently have. I love you dearly! ❤️. Here’s to the next leap!

As a doula, I use these techniques in almost every birth. They are lifesavers when babies need to be repositioned so labor can progress. It is nice to see that, finally, this is getting some mainstream attention.

 All the things we do to turn a baby when they get in wonky positions. Often times this can make labor a bit trying, longer, and harder for moms. Having collaborative support between the doula and medical staff is essential in these situations. This past week, two out of three of my births, the sweet little babies wanted to give me a run for my money. Thankfully, with a lot of hard work, these babies turned, and they had successful vaginal deliveries!!
