Are you going to meet your medical insurance deductible this year? I'd like to know, please comment below with Y or N. Feel free to add any other comments.
We opened the clinic in Summer of 2024 essentially. Our EHR was the WORST we could have ever chosen. That EHR system was touted as one of the best and they had two billing companies we could choose that "integrated well" with their service. We chose poorly. The whole thing was unworkable and the designated biller collected additional money up front to get me credentialed through insurance companies. He did start the process but then did not respond to the insurance companies and failed to respond to them and so...We were not getting paid. after several months of applications and trying to respond to all of them AND we amazing help from my daughter in law (without her, we would not have been paid at all).
After all that, we now get a few checks a day and at the rate each insurance company pays,,, we would indeed need to see about 3-4 patients an hour! This is why insurance no longer works.
And just to add insult to injury, the insurance company will tell us our patient was not actually covered on that day and take their payment back and tell us to bill the patient. They also will repeatedly deny claims for simple and dumb reasons like: the first listed diagnosis on the bill happened to be the BMI (not the most important - like it should have been. The reason for the denial will be: The insurance coverage doesn't cover treatment for obesity. Never mind that the office visit was about diabetes.
So, what to do? How could I in good faith inform my patient that they can't have medical decisions or discussions about weight when this is a huge epidemic in our country? Of course, I might get paid by the insurance company if I get the list of the diagnoses to remove the BMI but seriously! I am supposed to meet "standard of care" by discussing nutrition and exercise....
I have a solution: These insurance companies aren't really paying for you either. Are you meeting your deductible?
