Miriam Ruth Olson

Miriam Ruth (Larson) Olson, 66, of Kingston, ID, passed away on September 7, 2025. Miriam was born on April 10, 1959 in Alexandria, Minnesota to Roy and Esther Larson. From a young age, Miriam’s kind heart and adventurous spirit made a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Miriam met the love her life, Alan Olson, while attending Bible school in Minnesota. Their shared faith and connection quickly grew, and they were married on April 29, 1979.

The year before, in 1978, Miriam had followed her heart to Montana, drawn by a deep love for the mountains and a spirit of adventure. It was there, surrounded by the natural beauty she cherished, that she and Alan would build a life together – one rooted in love, faith, and family.

Miriam and Alan welcomed their first child, Jody Rebekah Olson, on February 14, 1981. Exactly four years later, on February 18, 1985, their son, Aaron Jeremiah Olson, was born, completing their family.

In 2016, Miriam and Alan relocated to Kingston, Idaho to be closer to their beloved grandchildren. Miriam cherished her role as a MeMa and loved being actively involved in their lives.

Miriam had an extraordinary gift for making people feel seen and loved. She never met a stranger, and her warmth and joy was infectious. She lived life to the fullest – always ready for the next adventure, and always with a smile and an open heart.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Esther Larson; her beloved son, Aaron Olson; and her son-in-law, JD Scribner.

Miriam is survived by her devoted husband, Alan Olson; her daughter, Jody Scribner; and her cherished grandchildren, Chase and Kinlee Scribner. She is also survived by her siblings: Phil Larson (Marlene), Nathan Larson (Ruth), Dave Larson (Vicki), Norm Larson (Gaylene), Kristi Maltby (Craig), and Pete Larson (Linda).

Miriam’s life was a blessing to all who knew her. Her legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering faith will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Family gatherings will be held next summer in Montana and Idaho.

Memories of Miriam and messages of condolence may be shared online with her family at www.shoshonefuneralservice.com. Shoshone Funeral Services, Kellogg, is assisting the Olson family with arrangements.

Vernon James Kitchen

Vernon (Vern) J. Kitchen of Pinecreek, ID, a much-loved and adored husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away on August 30, 2025, at Shoshone Medical Center in Kellogg, ID. He was surrounded by his family, who loved him deeply. Vern was born on May 8, 1939, in Smelterville, ID, the third son and the fourth child of the late Percy Kitchen and Rosalie Kitchen (Brammer).

Vern spent his growing-up years attending local schools. During high school, he played football and basketball, first at Kingston High and then at Kellogg, graduating from Kellogg High School in 1957. He was a proud life-long Wildcat. His family could often be found at home games and he could be found cheering his children on at their games and chosen activities.

He was a proud Marine (once a Marine, always a Marine), where he spent four years honing the work ethic and never-say-die attitude he first learned working alongside his father growing up. He was honorably discharged, and he came home to the Silver Valley, working various jobs in construction, at The Bunker Hill, until the doors closed. After the mine closed, he worked for several years helping his parents out and eventually running Rosie’s Mine Wedges, he eventually settled at Dave’s Smith Motors, where he spent months at the top of the salesperson board, retiring at the age of 81.

He met and married the absolute love of his life in 1967, and they settled in Pinecreek, ID. They raised their three children there. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching football, and cheering his children on in their chosen activities. He was an avid Washington Husky fan, BUT the college team that was near and dear to his heart was the Gonzaga Bulldogs. He spent many a night watching their games, yelling at the players and refs. One of his bucket list items was to go watch a game in the Kennel. A couple of years ago, his grandson Justin took him to a game, and he sat for the entire game in complete awe and silence. It was a great night, and for the first time, his wife didn’t have to elbow him or shush him. His biggest pleasure was being surrounded by his family. He loved watching the antics of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, except when playtime got a bit rough and tumble, which would jeopardize the lifespan of his TV.

If you knew Vern, you knew he loved the Lord greatly and was honored to serve in many capacities at the church the family attended. He loved God, his wife, his children, and family, and others. He raised and led his family with Godly values. He fought the good fight, and he has finished his course, and he kept the faith. We know he has received his crown of righteousness, which the Lord has given him.

He is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Kathleen Kitchen, of the family home in Pinecreek, ID; his children, daughter, Kim (Adam) Johnson, of Pinehurst, ID, daughter, Marci ( Heath) Ransom of Kingston, ID, and son, Percy ( Brittany) of Kellogg, ID; His grandchildren Justin (Katie), Jarred (Nikki), Little J, Draden, Kaleb, Houston, Ashley (Nathaniel), Amanda (Stephanie), Nick (Maria), Tailor, Eavin, and Joni.; his great-grandchildren, Tucker, Phoenix, Reggie, Jettson, Juddson, Madison, Delilah, Emory, Ezekiel, Jordynn, Lincoln, Logen, Laiklynn, Tanner, and Royce; his sisters Elsie Shatto, Rosalie (Talmadge) Birdsong, Kathy (Peter) Volkert, and Dorothy Osterberg; numerous nieces and nephews; and his best friend since grade school, Bob Stemm, and his friend from the dealership, Bob Tierney.

He is preceded in death by both of his parents; two brothers, Robert (Bob) and Verle; brother-in- laws Don and Leon; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, 11:00 AM at The Worship Center in Smelterville, ID, where a potluck will follow in the church’s activity center. Vern’s family requests that attendees wear Zag colors: blue and red.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at both Mountain Valley of Cascadia and Shoshone Medical Center, both in Kellogg, for the special care and love they showed Vern while in their care, and thank you to Shoshone Funeral Services for assisting with his final arrangements.

Memories of Vern and messages of condolence may be shared online with his family at www.shoshonefuneralservice.com. Shoshone Funeral Services, Kellogg, is assisting the Kitchen family with arrangements.

Gregory Lee Maier

Gregory Lee Maier, 38, of Spirit Lake, ID, passed away on August 31, 2025. Greg was born on July 10, 1987 in Flagstaff, AZ, a son of Tommy and Holly (Rupard) Maier.

Greg attended school in Castle Dale, UT and upon graduation, enlisted in the US Navy, working as a gas turbine electrician and earning the rank of E4, until he was honorably discharged in 2012. Greg loved being underway at sea and often shared stories of the beauty of the night sky, the rocking of the ocean waves and his adventures while in ports around the world.

After the Navy, Greg returned to Arizona and worked at Intel’s microprocessor division. He met his best friend Chris, with whom he remained extremely close. Greg had a deep love for the desert, growing up recreating and creating many family memories at the Grand Canyon and Lake Powell. He and his wife Maren were married at Shoshone Point at the Grand Canyon and frequently vacationed in AZ.

Greg was also a passionate Arizona Cardinals football fan and would at times go down to the local watering hole to watch the game and give the Seahawks fan club a hard time, all in good fun.

Greg married Maren Jorgensen in 2015 and became step father to three amazing children. He was a very attentive father figure in their lives, from changing diapers as babies, coaching their soccer and baseball teams, teaching them to shoot and hunter’s safety, to most recently helping his oldest attain her driver’s license.

Greg’s love of machines began as a young boy working on and rebuilding cars with his dad, Tom. From his time in the Navy to working in the oil fields, as a locomotive engineer for BNSF and then gaining his welding certification from North Idaho College, while working at Silverwood maintaining their roller coasters, to go on to becoming a millwright, most recently working at Idaho Forest Group. His career has always been one of hard work and skill. We often joked that his career is the stuff little boys dreamed of doing when they grew up.

Greg loved the outdoors; you could usually find him playing out in the woods, fishing, hunting, camping or 4 wheeling. He loved grilling and smoking BBQ for friends and family. Greg came to find a love for golf at the persistence of his wife, and they spent many afternoons golfing with friends out at Twin Lakes together.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents on both sides.

Survivors include his wife, Maren Maier of Spirit Lake, ID and step-children Saydie, Eli and Jax; his parents, Tommy (Elaine) Maier of Kingston, ID and Holly Maier of Twin Falls, ID; sister, Rachel (Danny) Scott and nephew Theodore; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that were like family.

A celebration of Greg’s life will be held at 2pm on September 21, 2025 at Twin Lakes Village Golf Club. 5416 W Village Blvd., Rathdrum, ID 83858.

To contribute to the ongoing support for Greg’s family during this unimaginable loss, a Go Fund Me page has been created.

David Victor Ghigleri

David “Dave” Victor Ghigleri, 77, lifelong Wallace, ID resident, beloved father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on August 16, 2025 at Silverton of Cascadia Health and Rehabilitation, Silverton, ID, after an extended illness. David was born on January 31, 1948 in Wallace, ID to parents Guy and Myrtle Ghigleri.

Dave attended Our Lady of Lourdes Academy in Wallace and graduated from Wallace High School. During his senior year of high school, David began working in the mines and continued to work after graduation. He worked for the Dayrock, Star, and Galena mines. David regaled the family with many tales of after shifters up at Esther’s Bar in Burke. Dave also operated equipment for the Zanetti Brothers at the Bunker Hill for awhile too. Later on, he started Ghigleri Logging where he was the owner and operator for many years.

Like any good Idahoan, Dave spent most of his time outdoors. He loved fishing and prospecting. A man of diverse interests, he was an excellent baker, an arborist, a historian, an amateur geologist, and a love of all creatures great and small. Dave even became quite a talented ring maker in his retirement, fashioning them by hand from gold and silver coins with a hammer and anvil in his basement.

The family ranch in Montana was the place that was closest to his heart. On the ranch he tended to the cattle there as a young man and later on planting every kind for fruiting tree and bush that could survive the cold Montana winters. He and his family enjoyed camping on the ranch in the spring, summer, and fall. A storyteller of the highest order, you would be captivated from start to finish. Dave was a voracious reader. He often read books cover to cover in one sitting. You would be hard pressed to find a topic that he couldn’t speak on.

In addition to his parents, Dave is preceded in death by his wife, Karen Marie Ghigleri, who passed away in 2008.

Dave is survived by three sons, David Brent Ghigleri (Tiffany Ornelas) of Kootenai, ID, Guy David (Michelle) Ghigleri of Mullan, ID, and Gian Steffano Ghigleri of Wallace, ID; two daughters, Ann (Al) Caron-Wilks of Wallace, ID, and Masina Marie (Jason) Chambers of Mullan, ID; a sister, Judi (Joseph) Quillici of Tacoma, WA; as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Private family interment occurred at the family ranch in Montana. A celebration of Dave’s life will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2025, 3:00 PM at the Wallace Elks Lodge, Wallace, ID.

Memories of Dave and messages of condolence may be shared online with his family at www.shoshonefuneralservice.com. Shoshone Funeral Services, Kellogg, is assisting the the Ghigleri family with arrangements.
