What an incredible week it has been! We feel honored and blessed to have gotten the opportunity to service Deacon Equine at the Hackamore Classic in Tulsa. Definitely a fine example of horsemanship, leadership and teamwork! It doesnโ€™t take much time to see they believe in bettering both horses and humans in and out of the arena!

The eyes say it all ๐Ÿ˜ด. It was Boss Manโ€™s Cryotherapy debut as Kora Meier worked through his suspensory ligaments and deep digital flexor tendons. To just say he showed relief would be a huge understatement! It never gets old seeing a horse find comfort and relief!

Using the Subzero we are able to localize the therapy to the areas in need and have the availability to use different heads/nozzles to best suit what the horse needs as an individual. As Iโ€™ve said in previous therapy posts I believe having the ability to treat the horse as an individual and take care of their specific needs is crucial in helping them get to where they need and reach their own best potential! For this session we used the flat contact head in which we super cool and then apply direct contact while traveling in a massage type fashion throughout the affected parts of the muscle.

Thank you Randi Holliday for trusting your horse in my hands! You guys are truly the voice of his recovery. Without everything you all do this very likely would be another sad story but because of everything you do you are turning tragedy into triumph! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Train suffered a broken radius. He has 3 cracks and essentially has his bone in 4 chunks holding on. This happened March 22nd from a horse kicking him.

In approaching an injury like this I look at the primary and secondary points of pain and affected mobility or in other termsโ€ฆ Primary- the point of injury (Left front knee to forearm), Secondary- the area or areas affected do to compensation and adjusted travel patterns (lumbar, sacrum and medial gluteal) in this case there is not only a primary and secondary but also a tri-point or a third area affected due to compensation. The tri-point for Train is his left wither (Dorsoscapular ligament, supraspinous ligament, Rhomboid muscle and Dorsal Serrated muscle).
Now obviously these affected areas chase off into other areas that are then affected but these areas are what you might call โ€œthe head of the snakeโ€ so by combining the areas of therapy and putting attention to not only the primary but also the secondary and tri-point we are able to assist the body as a whole helping it keep up and lessening our risk of secondary injuries or imbalances do to compensation.
When we can help mentally and physically stabilize the whole horse it allows better healing in the primary area due to a decrease in stress waste( amounts of medicine, therapy, nutrition, body fluids not processed through the body due to increased stress). Our target goal in choosing to do this taping application is to increase circulation helping flush out inflammation and increase blood flow. While also supporting the lumbar and scapular areas with proper muscle tension/softness combating muscle hardening.
