Worldwide Healing Hands

Worldwide Healing Hands Dedicated to improving the quality of healthcare for women and children in the most underserved areas of the world.

Dr. Paula Dhanda has delivered thousands of babies in Lake County and is renowned for revolutionizing women's healthcare. She is a dedicated physician to patients in her local community as well as to those around the world, through her non-profit organization, Worldwide Healing Hands. In the words of Dr. Paula Dhanda "Something happens to you, when you leave your family, friends and comforts behind to care for strangers. You discover the opportunity to touch lives in a lasting way." As a young girl growing up in Bombay, India, she witnessed extreme poverty first hand and watched her surgeon father serving the city's large indigent population. In 1990, she decided to follow in her father’s footsteps. She left her successful practice in affluent Beverly Hills to move to Lake County where there was a physician shortage. Here she led the way in establishing the obstetric program and introduced many new technologies to the area including minimally invasive surgery and the first laser in Northern California. She now leads a global initiative to provide medical care to women around the world. She began her international initiative in 2009 when she was invited by a fellow surgeon to participate in a medical mission in Chad, Africa. There they performed 50 surgeries in 2 weeks, delivered many high risk babies and trained the local staff. Since then she has led medical teams on 2 missions to Haiti in the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake. In 2012 and 2013 Worldwide Healing Hands embarked on a mission to Nepal where they gave care to 2500 women, trained 28 midwives in life saving procedures and performed numerous surgeries. Her efforts to alleviate suffering and promote wellness received recognition in 2010 when Adventist Health presented Her with its "Physician of the Year Mission Award." In 2011 she received the Soroptimist Ruby Award which acknowledges women who are working in extraordinary ways to improve the lives of women and girls. In 2012 she received the Marla Ruzicka Humanitarian of the Year Award. In 2013 she was given the American Red Cross Real Heroes award, which “recognizes those in our community who have shown courage, dedication and character through extraordinary acts of heroism and kindness.”

🇰🇭Updates from Cambodia:

Since hitting the ground in Cambodia on the 22nd, our team has been moving at full speed. We’ve officially reached our goal of 600 women screened for HPV, and our lab team is currently working nonstop processing every swab. ✅

But HPV screening is not our only goal; WHH also makes a point to contribute to sustainability through equipment donation and education. Our doctors dedicated their day to clinical education, in the morning focusing on visual detection and immediate treatment of pre-cancerous lesions. In the afternoon the focus shifted to workshops on usage of equipment-to-be-donated for this purpose. A successful day of lectures and workshops means local providers are even better equipped to provide essential long-term care.❤️‍🩹

WHH’s next chapter includes an intensified and deeply personal focus on reducing cervical cancer in rural Northern California. As we continue our global partnerships, we’re also continuing to expand the access that women in our own communities have to the knowledge, screenings, and compassionate care that can prevent lives from being cut short.

This is work rooted in equity, dignity, and the belief that every woman — no matter where she lives — deserves the chance to thrive.

We’re grateful to take this step alongside our community. Stay tuned for what’s ahead.

As we reflect on this year, we are filled with gratitude for the volunteers, donors, and partners who help bring the mission of Worldwide Healing Hands to life. Because of you, our teams screened 739 women for HPV, donated more than $20,000 in essential medical supplies, and trained midwives and physicians in Cambodia and Laos — work that will continue saving lives long after our team has returned home.

Your generosity reminds us that healing is a shared effort, built through compassion, collaboration, and community. And as we expand our mission to further encompass the local and the global, your support matters more than ever.

If you feel inspired this season, we invite you to take one small step: make a donation, share this post, or simply tell a friend about WHH. Every act of kindness helps us reach more women, both here and around the world.

Wherever you are, and whatever traditions bring meaning to this time of year, we are deeply grateful that you are part of Worldwide Healing Hands’ global community of healing. Your compassion, your encouragement, and your belief in the dignity of women everywhere continue to inspire our work across borders, across cultures, and across generations.

As the season invites us to pause, reflect, and reconnect, we wish you and your loved ones moments of peace, renewal, and shared light. May this time bring you closeness with the people who matter most, a sense of belonging to something larger than yourself, and a little well-earned rest.

From all of us at WHH: thank you for walking alongside us. May the season bring warmth, connection, and quiet joy to your days.

Every gift matters — not just because it helps someone today, but because it builds a more equitable tomorrow.

In rural communities, access to women’s healthcare is shaped by countless small factors: transportation, clinic staffing, screening availability, cultural trust, and the simple ability to see a qualified provider. Worldwide Healing Hands works to close these gaps — one training, one conversation, one act of care at a time.

Your gift ensures continuity:

• A woman gets screened who otherwise might not
• A midwife receives skills that protect future patients
• A family experiences safety and hope

Even the smallest contribution helps move our communities closer to a world where no woman dies from a preventable cause.

If this mission resonates with you, we invite you to give, share, or simply help spread the word. Your support truly matters.

As the world celebrates light and renewal — from Kwanzaa to Hanukkah, the Winter Solstice to Christmas, and from Cambodia’s Water Festival to Laos’s That Luang Festival — we honor the connections that unite us.

This year, Worldwide Healing Hands screened 739 women for HPV abroad — and now we’re deepening the work we’ve been doing at home in Northern California, as well, by expanding cervical cancer prevention efforts in rural Northern California.

Together, we can ensure no woman dies from a preventable cause.

JOIN US FOR THE ROTARY CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION!

We’ve been invited once again to join the Rotary Club of Clear Lake for their 32nd Annual Community Christmas Celebration on Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 10am–2pm at Burns Valley Elementary School — and we’d love your help!

To sign up, please email admin@worldwidehealinghands.org by no later than DECEMBER 6. And feel free to invite a friend — the more hands and hearts, the merrier.

This is one of the most fun events of the entire year. We see countless local children, share in the holiday joy, and help ensure that every family who walks through the door feels welcomed, cared for, and supported. This year’s celebration includes free meals, face painting, health-care screenings, and small gifts for every child — plus a visit from Santa himself.

We are looking for medical and non-medical volunteers to assist with screening, intake, and spreading Christmas cheer! 🎄❄️ We will be donating children’s books, socks, and other goodies.

Whether you can join for the full four hours or just part of the day, your presence truly makes a difference.

Thank you for all you do for our community. We hope you’ll be part of this joyful day!
