Give with Purpose! 🌟 Help Our Local Shelters and Families in Need

As we go through our homes, many of us find household goods, clothing, or baby items that we no longer use. Instead of taking them to a thrift store, consider donating directly to local shelters and organizations that can put them to immediate use in our community!

🏠 Love INC of the Kenai Peninsula in Soldotna is in need of sweatpants, sweatshirts, household goods, and shoes. They’re open Mon-Thur 9-4 and would greatly appreciate your donations.

👶🏻 ABC Life Choices in Kenai is a wonderful resource for mothers and families. They gladly accept baby supplies, pregnancy, and postpartum items. Your donation could make a huge difference for a new mom or family in need. Open Mon-Thurs 11-4.

Please comment below for more resources that you know of in the Soldotna area that would gladly appreciate donations.

By donating intentionally, you’re not just clearing out your home—you’re making a real impact in someone’s life right here in our community. Every item you give helps someone get through a tough time with dignity and support.

Let’s come together and donate with heart. Together, we can make a difference! 💛

Would you agree that there cannot be light without darkness?
Would you agree that in order for a tree to extend its branches it is more deeply rooted in the soil?
It can be a belief if you so choose that your most challenging times can carry your greatest gifts, your ultimate potential. Whatever trauma has been experienced, the pendulum has the potential to swing the opposite way.

When posting the flyers about this project in the community I was amazed at how the majority of the individuals in the non-profit organizations openly shared their own history with addiction. Now they are pillars of light in this community.

Please join in breaking the stigma on addiction. Whether it be insight or action. The smallest step forward leads to the biggest difference.

Friday June 24, 12:00 - 1:00 pm. Join us for a discussion about the importance of language in discussing recovery.

Language is powerful, especially when talking about recovery from substance use disorders. Stigmatizing language can perpetuate negative perceptions while "person first" language focuses on the person, not the disorder. We will take a look at some phrases and discuss how we can better utilize language that supports recovery.

Stop by the Cook Inlet Counseling office at 1230 Ocean Drive in Homer or log on via Zoom (details below).

This study supports that the origin of stigma is derived from a lack of understanding.

Stigma creates negative implications for individuals with addiction and mental health challenges to access health care. Increased awareness improves the experience of care and allows for a greater opportunity to access care.

While this study focuses on the health care setting, think about how this can also improve all other aspects in someone’s life. Use the figure below to reflect on a time when you have felt this happen to you. Now think about a time when you have done this to others. Then, think about the times when you felt and treated others with respect and compassion. How were these outcomes different?
