My acupuncture sessions are designed to be deeply restorative, balanced, and complete—treating both the body and the nervous system, not just isolated symptoms.

I often treat both the back and the front of the body in the same session (or front first, then back), allowing the treatment to work on the entire meridian system. This approach helps open the flow of Qi and Blood from multiple directions, creating a more thorough and lasting effect.

Each session combines:
• Acupuncture to regulate organ systems and restore energetic balance
• Acupressure to soften tension, release stagnation, and calm the mind
• A slow, intentional rhythm that encourages the body to fully relax and reset

This is a complete relaxation treatment—patients often enter a deep parasympathetic state where true healing can begin. By boosting key acupuncture points and harmonizing Qi, the body is supported in doing what it naturally knows how to do: heal, regulate, and restore.

My goal is not just symptom relief, but to help patients leave feeling:
✔️ Grounded
✔️ Clear-headed
✔️ Relaxed yet energized
✔️ Rebalanced from the inside out

This is acupuncture as medicine, therapy, and restoration—not rushed, not partial, but whole-body care.

The term "waters breaking" refers to the rupture of the membranes surrounding the baby and the gush or the leaking of amniotic fluid through the va**na. Although a significant sign of early labour, labour will not always automatically commence. Due to a possible risk of infection a medical induction will be considered if labour does not establish spontaneously.

Women need to notify their midwife or doctor immediately if their waters are discoloured that is, if they notice a brownish /greenish appearance to the amniotic fluids.

If a woman's membranes have ruptured Hegu L.I.-4, Sanyinjiao SP-6 and Ciliao BL-32 can be used to help establish labor.

Hegu L.I.-4 can be used in combination with Sanyinjiao SP-6 with the woman or her support person applying firm pressure to each point for several minutes at hourly or 2 hourly intervals. All four acupressure points can be used, or for practical purposes Hegu LI.-4 on one hand can be used in combination with the Sanyinjiao SP-6 point of the opposite leg. This combination can be repeated 1- 2 hours later starting with Hegu L.I.-4 on the opposite hand.

Ciliao BL-32 can also be used in combination with Hegu L.I.-4 and Sanyinjiao SP-6 with the support person applying firm downward stokes from Ciliao BL-32 through to the buttocks for 5 minutes once or twice a day

Acupressure Prior To A Medical Induction
If it is seen as necessary by a woman's midwife or doctor to medically induce labour the use of acupressure as outlined above can be commenced three days prior to the medical induction. The aim of the acupressure is to help establish contractions and promote cervical dilation. Even if labour does not commence spontaneously, feedback from midwives suggest that a woman's cervix is more favourable following acupressure and that there is an increased chance of a woman progressing through the induction with minimal intervention.

Acupressure For A Social Induction
Social induction is a term I use to indicate that women are interested in trying to induce labour around their due date for personal reasons. For example to coincide with a family member visiting or their partner's work commitments.

It must be remembered that due dates do not actually indicate the exact day that a baby will be born. It is only an indication of when a baby is due, in reality it is estimated that only 4% of babies will actually arrive on their due date.

While acupressure can be seen as more "natural" than a medical induction it is still an intervention. I would caution any women attempting to induce their labour for any reason other than on a recommendation by her doctor or midwife. The mechanisms that lie behind labour commencing are complex and while acupressure may be helpful in stimulating contractions this does not guarantee labour will progress efficiently.

Our brain runs the entire show, but how many of us know what the wiring actually looks like?

This graphic is basically a cheat sheet for how your nervous system really works, and once you see it all laid out like this, a lot of things suddenly make sense.

On the left, you’ve got the trigeminal pathways — the highways that carry sensations from your face, eyes, mouth, and scalp straight into the brain. Every time you feel a toothache, a cold breeze on your cheek, or a headache creeping in… that’s the system lighting up.

On the right is the part we all live with every day without realizing it:
the autonomic nervous system: sympathetic vs. parasympathetic.

One revs you up.
One slows you down.

Your digestion, heartbeat, breathing, pupils, blood pressure, sweating, or***ms - all of it is on autopilot, shifting between “fight-or-flight” and “rest-and-digest.”

And then at the bottom, you’ve got the actual building blocks.

The neurons themselves: motor neurons, sensory neurons. interneurons: and the neurotransmitters they use to talk.

Dopamine, serotonin, GABA, norepinephrine, glutamate… the chemicals behind mood, focus, addiction, calmness, motivation, sleep, cravings, and emotion.

our daily experiences come down to tiny electrical signals and chemical messengers firing inside this system.

The redness around the needle sites is a normal physiological response to acupuncture. When the needles are inserted, they stimulate small sensory nerves in the skin and underlying muscles, triggering local vasodilation and an increase in blood flow. This mild micro-trauma also activates the release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators, which naturally produce a pink to red discoloration around the insertion points. Because electroacupuncture is being used in this case, the electrical stimulation enhances circulation even further, causing the area to appear warmer and redder. This reaction is expected, temporary, and indicates that the tissues are responding to the treatment.

The visible redness shows that the treatment is successfully warming the channel, promoting Yang Qi, and releasing stagnation of Qi and Blood. With electroacupuncture, this effect becomes even stronger, as electrical stimulation further invigorates the meridians and encourages the smooth flow of energy. Overall, the redness is considered a positive therapeutic response indicating that the body is actively engaging in the healing process.
