Kendallville Manor Achieves Deficiency-Free Annual Survey Amid Major Flood Emergency
Kendallville Manor, a skilled nursing and rehabilitation community in Kendallville, Indiana, earned a Deficiency-Free Annual Survey after a week that truly tested the team’s strength, readiness, and dedication.
In the early hours of Monday morning, a pipe burst around midnight, flooding nearly 10,000 square feet of the facility. The water damaged three resident rooms, the medication room, and other areas, leaving two inches of standing water in nearly half the building.
Kendallville Manor quickly put emergency plans into action. Staff worked all night to remove water, keep residents safe, and restore normal operations. By Tuesday morning, the building was safe and running, just as state surveyors arrived for a surprise annual inspection.
Despite the unusual pressure and disruption, Kendallville Manor successfully completed the inspection and received an official Deficiency-Free Annual Survey. In the post-COVID regulatory environment, such outcomes have become increasingly rare and are achieved by only a small percentage of long-term care providers under the best of circumstances, so this was a true testament to the staff's ongoing exceptional work.
“This survey result is a direct reflection of our team’s commitment to doing the right thing for our residents, no matter the circumstances,” said Tony Hill, Administrator of Kendallville Manor. “Our staff showed professionalism, teamwork, and resilience at every level. I could not be prouder of how they responded under pressure.”
Kendallville Manor serves the Kendallville community and nearby areas as a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility. It offers 24-hour nursing care, short-term rehab, and long-term services in a supportive, resident-focused setting. Resident safety, regulatory compliance, and quality care are always at the heart of its mission.
Regional Director of Operations Ryan Wismer highlighted the importance of this achievement. “What the Kendallville Manor team accomplished this week speaks volumes about their leadership, preparation, and culture,” Wismer said. “To manage a major flood event and still deliver a perfect survey result is exceptional. This is exactly what excellence in long-term care looks like.”
Kendallville Manor’s leaders credit clear emergency planning, dedicated staff, and strong clinical oversight for this success. Repairs and restoration are in progress, and resident safety and comfort remain the top priorities.
