PSA on the PSL🎃☕ It's pumpkin spice season, y'all! Did you know a Grande size Pumpkin Spice Latte packs about 50 grams of sugar? That’s more than a 12-oz can of cola (39g sugar)!

Remember to enjoy in ~moderation~ and keep an eye on hidden sugars when putting together those seasonal orders. Some ways to cut back on added sugars:
🎃Add fewer (or no) pumps of vanilla syrup
🎃Ask for a lighter serving of pumpkin cream
🎃Stick to a tall or grande size instead of a venti
🎃Save money and use less sugar with options made at home

Okay let’s try something new heading into the weekend! This week’s grocery store flyers came out Wednesday with new deals and sales💸 Let’s look at some quick & easy recipes using these sale foods so that we can save money AND cook healthy meals at home.

HEB’s got a sale on chicken thighs ($0.99/lb), and this “5-Ingredient Oven Baked Thighs” recipe uses just a few ingredients – most are probably in your pantry already!🧑‍🍳 This protein dish won’t raise blood sugar very much, so you could serve this with ½ cup rice and a side of broccoli or greens. Keep in mind that the chicken skin will add fat, though.

With summer approaching, peaches are coming into season and going on sale ($0.97/lb)!🍑 You can eat them plain for a healthy snack (just add some protein-rich Greek yogurt or a handful of nuts/seeds to keep blood sugar from spiking), or get a little fancy and grill them to make these super cute “Just Peachy Bowls” for dessert!

If you want more budget-friendly recipe options for groceries on sale each week, let us know in the comments! Remember that healthy doesn’t have to be expensive!

We’re so excited for the interest in our Kids Wellness Days! Been getting some questions, so I want to answer common questions here.

Call 830-583-9304 if you have unanswered questions. We hope to see you on Wednesdays this summer!

☀️Can my child attend multiple days/sessions??? Kids are welcome to attend ALL days listed. Each week will have new and different activities, so bring the kids to as many days as they can come. This is a summer series, so we encourage participation throughout the summer.

☀️What if my child can’t make it the first week??? That’s okay! We understand there are several camps and plans in the summer, so bring them in when they are able to come.

☀️How do I register??? We’ll need you to fill out a registration form and waiver on the first day that your child comes (whatever day that is). Once we have those forms on file, your child is set to come to any future days, and you won’t have to fill out additional forms.

☀️Are the July sessions a repeat of the June sessions??? No – this is a summer series that will be ongoing throughout both months. Each of the seven days/sessions will be different, so please come to as many as you’re able to!

☀️What if my child can only come to two days/sessions??? We welcome kids to join us for as many sessions as they can attend – whether that is all or just a few.

☀️My child attended a previous Wellness Camp at OKMH. Is this similar??? Yes, we are formatting each day similar to how we ran Wellness Camp. Instead of a week-long session, though, we are stretching the program throughout the summer in a weekly series format. Also, unlike previous camps, there is no pre-registration. Simply fill out your registration forms on your child’s first day (whatever day that is).

We've got a month to go now until the Diabetes Dash 5K! That means 4 weeks to train and prepare, and we've got you covered on your training plan!

We've got two plan options. Both call for 3 days of walking (or jogging) with rest days in between. We use a combination of quick pacing with slower rest paces in between to get your stamina up and ready for race day. And it only takes about 20-30 minutes!

Don't forget to pick up your registration form at the OKMH lobby front desk NOW! Turn in your form and registration fee by March 14 for priority registration.

We are putting a new, FREE event on the calendar at Kaiser Wellness Center in February. We're hosting beginner-level HIIT (high intensity interval training) group workout sessions!

These are video-based classes in a group setting - perfect if you are looking for some workout partners or accountability! All equipment will be provided. If you're not familiar with HIIT, it uses short bursts of intense activity mixed with lower-intensity recovery periods. And as a reminder, exercise and strength-training are great ways to help the muscles better respond to insulin and lower blood sugar numbers.

We will be using these classes to help us get ready for our 3rd Annual Diabetes Dash 5K - scheduled for March 29! Pick up registration forms at the OKMH lobby front desk.
