There are some mornings that just stay with you… and today in Kenedy was one of them. 💙

The Autism Walk was filled with so much sweetness…friends, families, laughter, bubbles floating through the air, and the kind of joy you can truly feel. It was so special to be surrounded by both familiar faces and new ones and getting to reconnect with past families, love on current ones, and meet new families just beginning their journey. 🫶🏻

The Speech Shed was so honored to be a small part of such a meaningful morning, simply showing up, connecting, and celebrating this incredible community. We can’t wait to see some new faces at our upcoming Autism caregiver support group! 🧩

On my way there, the song “People Need People” by CAIN came on, and the lyrics couldn’t have been more fitting. Because it’s true, people need people. We need to be more accepting for everyone! 💙

Moments like today are what it’s all about:
acceptance, kindness, community, and loving others well…just as Jesus calls us to do.✝️

Such a special morning at The Speech Shed 💛

I had the honor of hosting Kenedy High School Health Heroes which is an incredible group of seniors interested in pursuing careers in healthcare. The room was full of curiosity, thoughtful questions, and a genuine desire to make a difference in the world. 🌎🥹

As a Kenedy alum, this one hit close to home. It meant so much to connect with these students, hear about their goals, and share a glimpse into the world of speech therapy and what we do as SLPs.

We ended our time together with this short video, which left us all teary eyed and ready to go out and be HELPERS!

The PDSES application is now open!

The Parent-Directed Special Education Services (PDSES) program provides a one-time $1,500 online grant for parents/guardians of eligible students receiving special education services and enrolled in a Texas public school. Families can use the online account to purchase educational materials and resources—such as textbooks, curriculum, or technology—and services like tutoring or therapy.

Application window: April 1–April 30, 2026. To learn more, visit PDSES.TEA.TEXAS.GOV.

Speech Shed Tip of the Day💡

It’s easy to fall into “quiz mode” when talking with kids:
What’s that? What color is it? How many do you see?

But constant questions can create pressure and shut down conversation. Try this instead ➡️ make comments.

Instead of “What’s that?” say, “You have a red truck!”
Instead of “What color is it?” say, “That banana is yellow.”

Comments keep the conversation going without demanding a response. They give your child language models to learn from in a low-pressure way. 🫶

BIG milestone moment over here at The Speech Shed 🎉

This girl officially met one of her articulation goals and I could not be more proud. She has worked SO hard to get here, showing up each session ready to give it her all...all while keeping me laughing the entire session!

There is truly never a dull moment with her. She’s hilarious, spunky, and brings the best energy into every session. And let’s be honest… if there were an award for best dressed, she’d be taking that home too 👏✨

Watching her growth has been such a joy, and being part of her journey is something I don’t take lightly.

So proud of you! 💛

One of the most common questions we hear is, “How many words should my child be saying?”

Here are some general expressive language milestones:
• Around 1 year: 1 to 3 words
• Around 2 years: 50 words and starting to combine two words
• Around 3 years: 200 to 1,000 words with short sentences

If your child isn’t quite there, don’t panic-but trust your gut. Early support makes a big difference. 🫶
