Mary Alice Richardson, 88, was welcomed with open arms into Heaven on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Born in Florence, South Carolina on November 11, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Melvin Reese Campbell and Alberta Amerson Campbell.

In addition to her parents, Mary Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Leighton Richardson; grandson, Reece L. Richardson; brothers, Melvin Campbell and Harvey Campbell; and sister, Geraldine Player.

Mary Alice is survived by her sons, Rickey Richardson and wife, Becky, Todd Richardson and fiancée, Sherry Hippo, Scott Richardson and wife, Amanda, and Jody Richardson and wife, Teresa; grandchildren, Rebecca, Leighton, Garrett, Brock, Alice, Riley, Jameson, Samantha, Jo Jo, Justin, and Jesse Richardson; great-grandchild, Olivia Richardson; and siblings, Betty Jean David, and Dondi Campbell and wife Stephanie. Mary Alice is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Brenda Campbell, Ruth Brady, and Esther Sawyer; and special friend, Barbara Midgett. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering devotion to those she held dear.

Mary Alice’s family was her world. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and to all, she was a motherly figure—nurturing, guiding, and offering a safe haven. Her home was always open, a sanctuary for anyone in need of comfort, a listening ear, or simply a warm meal. It was said that she never met a stranger, always extending her kindness to those she encountered.

Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and they will forever cherish the countless moments spent in her embrace. Mary Alice’s love for her family knew no bounds; her heart and home were places where love and laughter flowed freely.
Mary Alice, along with her late husband, owned and operated Stormin’ Norman’s restaurant. From humble beginnings, they opened their restaurant at the Carolina Premium Outlets in Smithfield. Through God’s grace and timing, they were able to open a stand-alone restaurant in Kenly. For the people of Kenly and the surrounding areas, Stormin’ Norman’s will always be a staple in our community.

Mary Alice had an unwavering love for the Lord that was the foundation of her life. Her faith was a guiding light, shining through in every action, every word, and every interaction. She trusted in God’s plan with a steadfast heart and lived her life in service to Him. Her prayers were a constant source of strength, and she found peace in knowing that His love surrounded her always. Mary Alice's devotion was reflected in her kindness, as she sought to share God’s love with everyone around her. Whether it was through a simple conversation, a kind gesture, or a heartfelt prayer, she made sure that those who crossed her path felt the warmth of the Lord's embrace. Her love for Christ was evident in all she did, and her legacy of faith will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

Mary Alice was a very generous woman, and her generosity went beyond material things. Her most treasured gift was her time and love —she gave them both to everyone who crossed her path. Whether it was a word of encouragement, a warm meal, or a helping hand, Mary Alice's selflessness and grace were evident in everything she did.

Mary Alice’s memory will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, extended family, and the countless folks who dined at Stormin’ Norman’s. As we mourn the loss of this extraordinary woman, we take comfort knowing that Mary Alice’s love and kindness will continue to ripple through many generations to come.

Please join us in remembering and honoring Mrs. Mary Alice on Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. for a time of visitation at Kenly Funeral Service. A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Kenly Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor George Arant presiding. Entombment will be held at Kenly Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Kenly Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund 1730 NC 222 West Kenly, NC
27542 or to the Reece Richardson Memorial Scholarship at the University of Mount Olive, 634 Henderson St. Mount Olive, NC 28365 in memory of Mary Alice.
