April is Autism Awareness and Acceptance month and at NPT, we are committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all of our clients and their families.

This month serves as an opportunity to build awareness and promote acceptance of individuals with autism. We also celebrate the strengths, achievements, and contributions of people in the autism/neurodiverse community.

According to estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 1 in 36 children has been identified with ASD, with boys being four times more likely to receive a diagnosis than girls. While the exact cause of autism remains unknown, research shows that early diagnosis and intervention can significantly improve learning, communication, and overall development.

🌺 Spring is in the air (maybe?!) in the PNW which means bulbs are blooming, birds are singing, and bunnies are hopping! At NPT, we love a good theme and since today is the first day of spring, ‘Springtime’ is our book theme.

Patti is our wonderful and reliable Front Desk Administrator at NPT. What she loves most about working at NPT are her colleagues and the families that she gets to see on the days she works–the kids especially brighten her day!

When Patti isn’t at the clinic, she loves going out with her husband to see a good movie as well as staying home and watching something good on Netflix. Going out and catching up with friends is another way she likes spending her free time. In the near future, Patti wants to pursue learning to play pickleball and taking a cake decorating class so she can add these to her list of fun hobbies!

🥳 Our middle school social group meet-ups are underway! This awesome group of middle schoolers are practicing social skills through engaging activities led by NPT’s SLP Stefanie.

The kids got to make their own slime while working on:

1️⃣ Social engagement
2️⃣ Reciprocal social interaction
3️⃣ Complex communication
4️⃣ Shared social problem solving
5️⃣ Multiple perspective thinking

Today’s Staff Spotlight is on Darcie Bulger, MS, OTR/L

Darcie is one of our passionate pediatric occupational therapists who specializes in sensory processing, fine and visual motor skills, self/emotional regulation, and primitive reflex integration.

She loves creating engaging, play-based activities to help children build confidence and independence in their daily lives. Some of her favorite therapy sessions include primitive reflex/brain gym obstacle courses, sensory bins, and hands-on projects such as making sensory bottles. Darcie finds joy in helping children and families navigate challenges while making therapy fun and meaningful!

When she’s not in the clinic, Darcie enjoys exploring new restaurants, watching Netflix series, cooking, working out and hiking or camping with her husband and son.
