When management at Nouveau Marc decided to evacuate those who wanted…to Jackson, MS. prior to landfall of Hurricane Ida. Nancy’s Private Home Healthcare’s nurse agreed to go with our clients. Knowing it would not be in the best interest of our clients to toss them on the care of unfamiliar caretakers [as the other care agency in the building did] our nurse attended to the needs of our clients and often those who were not our clients.

NEWS RELEASE
JEFFERSON PARISH, LOUISIANA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JEFFERSON PARISH EXPANDS ‘MEALS ON WHEELS’ PROGRAM DURING COVID-19
500 Jefferson Parish Seniors Currently on the Waiting List will Receive Delivered Meals
JEFFERSON, LA – The Jefferson Parish Council, in partnership with Second Harvest and Jefferson Council on Aging, will expand the “Meals on Wheels” program to accommodate feeding approximately 500 seniors who are currently on the waiting list to receive food assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic in our community.
According to Jefferson Parish Councilman Deano Bonano, “We understand that people in our Jefferson Parish community are in need during this COVID-19 outbreak and we want to do everything in our power to help. We are hopeful that expanding the feeding program during this time will insure that more people, especially those in the higher at-risk categories, are being fed. Thanks to all our volunteers who are helping make this possible."
The meals are delivered hot, ready to eat and represent one third of the daily nutrition requirements for a senior adult. To be eligible to participate in the food delivery program, which is free of charge, seniors must not be able to prepare or procure their own meals. Seniors who are not currently on the waiting list but meet requirements, can be added to the list (as supplies last) by applying online at www.jcoa.net/submit-a-request-online.
Individuals who do not qualify for the “Meals on Wheels” program but are in need of food assistance, are encouraged to dial 2-1-1 and ask about “emergency food assistance” to receive more information from Second Harvest, find out about the nearest food pantry and sign up for services. More information is available at https://no-hunger.org/covid-19/..
