Every parent has seen big emotions… but tantrums and meltdowns are not the same.
👉 Tantrums usually come from frustration or wanting something they can’t have (like more playtime or skipping homework). They’re often short-lived and can stop when your child gets emotional support/attention or what they want.
👉 Meltdowns are caused by overwhelm, too much emotion, or sensory input for a child’s nervous system to handle. These aren’t manipulative, and they can last longer as your child struggles to regain control.
So, how do we help? Here are a few short-term strategies that can support kids through meltdowns:
👉 Sips of cold water or crunchy snacks
👉 Rhythmic, regulating sounds or music
👉 Deep pressure input (bear hugs, squeezes)
👉 Mindful breathing (“Smell the flower, blow the pinwheel”)
👉 Visual imagery (glitter jars, guided relaxation)
These help in the moment. For lasting change, Neurologically-Focused Chiropractic Care helps calm the nervous system so kids can thrive. 💙 Link in bio or DM us—we’re here to help!
