Barbie with Autism just launched this week—and she’s holding an AAC device. That one detail matters.
When AAC shows up in everyday play, it helps normalize what so many AAC users already know: there are lots of ways to communicate, and AAC is one of them. It also opens the door for pretend play that includes AAC—playground, school, shopping, friends, dress-up… all the things Barbie does, with language modeled in real life moments.
