To you - what is the difference between surviving vs thriving?
Postpartum can hit moms like a ton of bricks - mentally, physically, emotionally.
And as a perinatal chiropractor, when working with second time moms, the most common thing I see is a very “intentional and deliberate planning of the postpartum time period”. And this is why Rachael and I talk about this ALL THE TIME ❤️ to try to help those first time moms not be blind sided and to help seasoned moms prepare more intentionally.
What helped you the most in postpartum?

Mom hike tomorrow - 10/13 !!
Haven’t done a hike in a while, but Cobb has a digital day, so I’m dragging one of my kids with me! Still not sure what time - maybe around 11. Message me if you want the details and I’ll let you know the time ❤️

Gotta love a good text about 💩 !! Nervous system dysregualtion (subluxations) can present as dysfunctional bowel patterns in some infants. I’ve had some pediatricians say it’s ok for a breast fed baby to go 9 days without a bowel movement 🫣😳 but honestly - how would you feel 9 days with no 💩 but this is why it’s always one of the questions I ask in my newborn exams. Gives great insight into how the nervous system is functioning. I always ask about it whether the parents are bringing the baby in for bowel issues. And besides improvement in sleep, the next most common thing I see in infants under care is more regular and less painful bowel movements.
Stressful births, traumatic births, and fetal malposition are all ways the nervous system can become dysregulated. And pediatric chiropractic care is a beautiful and gentle way to allow the tension to unwind and restore proper function ❤️
And if you’re on Instagram, hope you like the audio 😂😂 it’s amazing what songs pop up when you search p**p 🙄

Beachy vibes for fall break 🤙 we headed back to Seagrove and had an exhaustingly refreshing time 😝 it’s a weird space to be in, being so acutely aware of the passage of time. I work with so many young families, and I see this a lot and very vividly remember those vacations of just parenting in a new location, and scheduling naps, and being asked to build sand castles, and never feeling like I had a chance to just pause and read a book……so I’m soaking up the chance to relax, but mourn not being asked to build a sand castle 🥹 and instead we play paddleball and soccer and football, and we paddleboard with turtles, take long walks after dinner, sleep in, and everyone relaxes for a bit ❤️ (oh and we still get to deal with sibling arguments 🙄😂)

Love hearing this from patients!! I take pride in providing specific and individualized care for folks. Not every neck pain is the same. Sometimes we need a few adjustments before we switch to wellness and sometimes we gotta call in resources. I have a very wonderful referral network - folks who refer to me because they trust me - and folks I refer to because I trust them. So you not only get adjustments here, but all the knowledge, care, and concern I can provide ❤️
And yes - I see all folks - not just moms, babies, and kids 🤩

Views from this weekend ❤️ Y’all - nature has the ability to heal you if you let it. I admit, had to put a pause on social for a little bit cause it definitely wasn’t bringing healing.
I had to remind myself what my therapist has told me many times before. What I focus on, dictates what I feel, which dictates how I function. Focus - Feeling - Function. Now in my chiropractic world, I often say structure determines function. It’s all related. Input determines output.
So I rested. I ran 21 miles. I spent time singing songs at the top of my lungs. I got early morning sunlight on my eyes. I celebrated the breath in my lungs. I visited with friends. I walked several miles listening to podcasts. I spent extra time with my devotional and my journal. Nothing to the point of exhaustion, but everything that filled my cup.

When the older brother gets involved and tells you where little brother needs to be adjusted 😂🤩😍
Don’t get me wrong. I’m here for all the chiropractic miracles. The aches and pains that go away. The sleep that improves. The behavior issues that get resolved. The mobility that improves. The balance and coordination that get better. The constipation that goes away. I’m here for all of that. And honestly - I’m not treating any of that. I’m looking at nervous system function. So when we adapt to stressors better, we have improved function……..but I digress.
I love when the littles watch when their siblings get adjusted and when their parents get adjusted. Yes, sometimes they freak out when mom lays on the table. Like how dare you care for yourself…………but that’s it! They are seeing how mom and dad care for themselves. And when mom and dad are regulated and when the kiddos start to regulate. It’s contagious!

I’ve told yall before - one of the most common things I hear from patients is that they “sleep better after an adjustment” 🙌🤩 and a lot of times, it’s not even their reason for starting under care. They just happen to notice it after getting adjusted 😉
There’s also a variety of reasons why sleep is disrupted. But I’m not treating the sleep issue. I’m looking at spinal alignment, brain function, body function, and nervous system function. And as we adjust the spine and impact vagus nerve function and optimize the brain/body connect, sleep can improve. For all ages!!
And nowadays, I don’t know anybody who couldn’t use some help in the sleep department 😴

Latest episode of the podcast is out and I had such a blast interviewing Kori Nuzum - a local occupational therapist who focuses on maternal health and has created a program called Let’s Retreat - to help moms not just survive in motherhood but thrive 🙌
We talked all about the how and why of OT - and the specifics of maternal OT and we also discussed what her goal is with Let’s Retreat. This was a 2 part interview, so the next part will come out in a couple of weeks (and it’s about transforming motherhood with simple habits!!)
Be sure to follow Kori and check out her events offered through

When you’re scrolling social and you’re like - Hey, that’s one of my mamas and the doula I referred her to ❤️❤️
Nothing brings me more joy than watching moms specifically and intentionally create their birth support team 🙌 cool note is that, this was the second pregnancy I’ve been able to support for this mom and the second pregnancy was able to support for this mom as well.
A birth support team is so much more than just those in the direct birth space. Yes it’s about the relationship with your provider. But it’s also about the connection and relationship you have over time with your doula so that they know how to support you. It’s the connection and relationship you have with your chiropractor so that your nervous system is regulated and your pelvis is balanced. It’s the understanding and knowledge gained from childbirth education classes. This team can transcend birth, if you let it. And it can impact your mental health as well ❤️

What is the Webster Technique??
The official definition from The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA), is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment used to reduce the effects of sacral/pelvic subluxation and/or sacroiliac joint dysfunction. It aims to improve neuro-biomechanical function in the sacral/pelvic region, which can be beneficial during pregnancy. The technique is not a treatment for fetal malposition or in-utero constraint, but rather focuses on optimizing pelvic biomechanics.
・・・
Here’s what the definition can mean for mom:
• reduction in sciatic pain allowing mom to still move as she wants and to care for older children
• a better aligned pelvis that allows baby to descend optimally (fyi - it’s not a straight shot!)
• assisting a stalled labor due to fetal malposition
• better fetal position and avoidance of a csection because of a breech presentation
• unmedicated birth because less interventions were needed and mom was allowed to labor on her own because her nervous system was supported.
• less fear in a first time mom because she created a birth support team which happened to include yours truly ❤️
I could keep going…….I think every woman deserves to have a chiropractor as part of her birth support team. And if this was the case, I think we would see drastic changes in the maternal stats.

Forgot to share this fun email from back in May!!
Love supporting my VBAC mamas ( and I’ll tell you a secret - that’s why I became a chiropractor - to support VBAC mamas. But of course it has ended up being so much more 😘)
Whenever I’m working with a VBAC mama, I approach the birth plan differently. We obviously have a prior birth, so we have to unpack what led to the first cesarean. That in itself can be heavy or light. Then we tackle provider, birthing location, birth support team (hello chiropractic care!), the mental component, childbirth education, and more. I did a podcast epsiode on with .amandashipleypt all about VBAC’s (episode 70) and we’ve done a few VBAC episodes on the podcast ( episodes 25 and 74).
VBAC support is near and dear to my heart. I’m a VBAC mama, so I understand fully what it means for birth to not go the way you wanted and what it means to do everything in your power to rewrite the story. Giving birth is not just a moment in time. It stays with you and deserves intentional focus, shared decision making, and full support.
And mom has since come back for the postpartum re-exam and newborn exam ❤️❤️
