How soon can you brush your teeth after oral surgery?

In most cases, gentle brushing with a soft toothbrush is allowed the next day. However, it’s important to avoid the surgical site to prevent irritation and support proper healing.

Every procedure is different, so be sure to follow your surgeon’s specific post-op instructions for the best results.

When should you remove your wisdom teeth? 🦷

Wisdom teeth (third molars) usually appear between the ages of 17–25. However, they can start growing as early as 7-10 years old, and some individuals may not develop them at all. While not everyone needs them removed, extraction is often recommended when they may cause problems now—or in the future.

You may need wisdom teeth removed if:
They’re impacted (stuck under the gums or growing sideways)
There’s pain, swelling, or infection
They cause crowding or damage to nearby teeth
They’re hard to clean and increasing the risk of cavities or gum disease
X-rays show they’re likely to cause issues later on

Why earlier is often better
Removing wisdom teeth in the late teens or early 20s is usually easier, with:
Faster healing
Fewer complications
Less risk to surrounding teeth and nerves

Even if your wisdom teeth aren’t hurting now, they can still cause silent problems. A consultation and X-ray with an oral & maxillofacial surgeon can help determine the right timing for you.

✨ STAFF SPOTLIGHT✨
We asked her what inspired her to join oral surgery, and her answer says it all — learning that the mouth is the entryway to overall health sparked her passion for this field

Since joining CBOMS over a year ago, she’s embraced personal growth both at work and in life. One habit she’s adopted? Starting her day earlier so she has more time and balance to get things done.

We’re grateful to have such a thoughtful and motivated team member with us. Thank you for all that you do!
