Renee D. Murphy (Hughes), M.A., LPC - Licensed Professional Counselor I'm a former Licensed Professional Counselor w/ over 26 yrs of counseling, consulting & educational experience. I'm entering into another phase of my life!

I've retired my license on 3-5-28 and will no longer be providing Professional Counseling Services. If you are interested in guidance, counseling, and educational services, please go to my website at: OurJourneyThroughLife.org for complete information about me, my services, fees, and contact info. I also provide Parent Education for parents wanting to learn positive parenting approaches to help th

eir infants-18 yr olds feel secure, attached, and learn self-discipline. I write occasional responses for Quora Digest, and articles for my clients' needs. You can reach me at 336-970-0523. I try to return every call within 24 hrs, although sometimes 48 on the weekends, holidays, days closed or special circumstances. You may also e-mail me at: RDMurphyHughes@gmail.com. I offer "Distance Services" via phone consultations as well as full web cam services through on-line venues for counseling & educational services. I see clients for the initial 2 sessions in my office, if requested, within Kenosha County WI. I work by appointment, but am flexible and will try to work with you on short notice if possible. Any major credit card is accepted in addition to PayPal, Debit Card and VEMO. Payment can be made right on my website for your convenience!

**NOTE**: I am licensed by the WI Board and am in good standing with them as a fully licensed clinical Therapist. I draw on my yrs of education & experience in the mental health and education fields. I am currently in Private Practice seeing individuals and Couple's by Distance Counseling. (The initial first 2 sessions are offered Face-to-Face if requested. I keep myself up-to-date on the laws and ethics of Counseling. I possess the essential qualities of an effective Counselor/Educator which and understand the difference between the two. I can only provide my services to anyone under the age of 18 with signed parental consent, and their parent must schedule their appointment. Your date-of-birth will be asked, but you will not be asked to provide proof of that, unless there is some reason to doubt that you may not be at least 18. HOWEVER, stating that you ARE indeed 18 or over is being taken at your word that you are of age to legally sign agreements and documents for counseling as well as making payment professional services. You are asserting that you are at least 18 yrs old as a truthful legal statement. You will also be signing a Consent form that asks for the signature of the responsible party of at least 18 yrs old. If you are dishonest in representing the truth, this Counselor is not held responsible if the Counseling relationship was entered into based on false information which you knowingly provided. *For minors under the age 18, parental consent forms will need to be signed before Counseling services can begin*. It should be understood that I always strive to make my clients satisfied, and I encourage dialogue and feedback if the client would like to see any changes or does not think we are a good fit for working together. I believe that Counseling needs to be individually tailored to each client rather than a one size all approach. If it would be in your best interests to see another Counselor or to get a referral to an Internet or Face-to-Face Counselor, I will advise you of that. I also am of the mindset that I am the vehicle in which to assist you in taking your journey, but that you are the driver and are responsible for applying what is learned and implementing the steps to achieve your own objectives and goals, as you define them. The client should always be working harder at making the changes to their own lives than the service provider. That is taking responsibility and ownership of one's own life. I always aim to provide the best possible care to each and every client I work with. PLEASE NOTE THAT ***MY DISTANCE CO/EDUCATIONAL HRS ARE VE FLEXIBLE*** ( a strong benefit of TECHNOLOGICALLY ASSISTED SERVICES). THEY MAY BE EARLIER OR LATER DEPENDING ON THE CLIENT'S NEED AND MY AVAILABILITY. The PRIVACY, CONVENIENCE, and FLEXIBILITY of this type of support and assistance for people who are experiencing challenges whether it be at home, school, work, in relationships, or in life in general is a MAJOR BENEFIT to DISTANCE COUNSELING. Additional advantages are NOT having to worry about baby-sitting or elder care, as well as transportation issues and savings on gas and parking. In summary, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor & Parent Educator, which encompasses our personal/family lives, and professional lives: work-life balance, compensation skills for those with ADD/ADHD, interpersonal communication, conflict resolution skills, anxiety, depression, and couples counseling. I would be happy to discuss your situation and let you know if I have the expertise to be able to address your concerns.

~ Thank You. ~ Renee :)

I've decided to retire my license as a Licensed Professional Counselor after 30 years of my career. I am looking forward to entering a new chapter of my life. Yet, I am forever grateful for all my clients & students that have put their trust in me through the years. I hope they continue to be better for having done so. I know I am. I wish they all will continue to walk a healthy path in "Their own "Journey Through Life".

A recent client wrote this testimony to her counseling experience with me:

"We began working together about a year ago. Our time together has made a significant impact on my mental health, and how I value it. From the initial phone call and through our sessions I have always felt respected, understood and valued.

I was able to learn practical strategies to help myself become stronger and more confident. Our sessions felt natural, and more like a conversation. I value the safe space that she helped create for me that I'll continue with ahead. Her flexibility and schedule was also a perfect fit for me."

Grief & Loss is prominent at holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, & with new unshared life events. Hold on & try to remember the great, positive memories they have left with you. That's what I try to do. Honor them. Sending peace & joy to everyone!!

What is it that you grieve most during this holiday season? This is a long list, but there are so many more things that we miss. I miss hearing J's quirky views of life and his observations that never matched mine. I miss that he's missing his son and two nephews and a niece that were born after his death. I miss that they only know his face because of old pictures. I miss cooking for him and saving handyman jobs for him . . . and watching him watch his little guy grow into the middle sized boy he is today. -jb-

This is a wonderful time of year for many of us. But it can also be a stressful, anxious, lonely & sad time for others. Let's all remember that & lend a hand, an ear, and a loving thought to those that feel this way. Show kindness. šŸ’›

In almost all cases, depression brings changes in thinking; for many people, the condition's deceptions are insidious. These five cognitive distortions are especially well-founded signs of its trickery.

It takes time to heal. Hold on. Learn "Radical Acceptance". It helps us in our Journey to finding peace of mind.

Grieving the sickness or loss of a pet is not easy. Some have become part of the family. Allow yourself time to grieve. Going through the stages of grief are basically the same as those commonly experienced when we lose any loved one. People don't always experience them in the same order or intensity. It's very personal to each of us. The stages, first introduced by Kubler-Ross & elaborated on after that by professional Mental Health Grief Experts are: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression & Acceptance - otherwise known as DABDA.

That last one is very hard. But if we can get there we can relish the best memories we've had with our loved one. Celebrate the life they did have & our relationship with them, "let go" - not to be confused with forgotten. Remembered them but not with so much pain.

*Has anyone ever experienced the loss of a parent, spouse/life partner, a sibling or special friend or even a precious pet? If you're comfortable, please share your experience as it may help people to learn how to cope and allow their lives to move forward.*

will share mine. I have personally experienced many losses & have had to figure out to accept it & memorialize them. My Father, Mother (that was especially hard on me), all my grandparents, friends who died so early in life, a fiancƩ who died at 33 yrs old, Aunts & Uncles ( the Uncle that was an extremely integral part of my life died just last week :( ), & my Aunt, (his wife) died just months before. My husband who is still alive but is just an unrecognizable fragement of the man he used to be due to Irreversible Dementia - Alzheimer's Disease, a cruel & inhumane disease to slowly die from! & 2 of my most beloved pets. Our beautiful female dog, Paloma - half Corgie half Terria - that's been my best friend for years has Squamous Cell Carcinoma in her jaw, incurable & is being reassessed this afternoon by her vet for quality of life & pain level. She is in the 3rd month of a prognosis life expectancy of maybe 9 months and quickly deteriorating. We definitely don't want her to suffer, but when it's time to determine that she is in a lot of unmanageable pain we definitely have to do what is most humane for her. I'm praying we won't hear that today. Please pray or send positive vibes.

Again, please share your experience(s) to help others, even myself, on how to cope & move on from the pain & sorrow. It doesn't matter that I'm a Professional Licensed Counselor when it effects me personally.

I appreciate your candor should you determine to share your story. šŸ˜Œā˜¹ļø

Emotional song with profound lyrics. "Say goodbye to the past, leave it all with a laugh" - reminds us to stay living the present. We cannot change the past. We don't know the future, but we can live in the present and reframe our experiences to either pick out the negatives or focus on the positives.

"We're all the same inside from 1 to 99" - lyrics of an unknown song. So true. We all need to remember we're more alike than different.
