Our Mission

Above and Beyond: ABA Therapy for Autism and More is dedicated to providing the highest quality applied behavior analysis services to your child. Our goal is to teach children to maximize their potential in all environments by teaching appropriate behaviors, social skills, language skills, adaptive living skills and academic skills. We strongly believe children with developmental disabilities can become successful, independent adults with the correct intervention. Rebecca Hubbard, President of Above and Beyond, is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and has worked with children with Autism for over 15 years. Rebecca has a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology and a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. Trevor Hubbard, Vice-President of Above and Beyond, will be taking the board exam for behavior analysis. Trevor has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. He has worked with children with Autism for over 11 years. Above and Beyond also contracts out with several ABA therapists to provide direct therapy services. All current therapists have Bachelor’s degrees. What is ABA? Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), is a proven scientific method that uses the principles of learning to improve behavior. Tangible items and praise can be used to motivate and reinforce the child. When a behavior is followed by something that is valued, that behavior is likely to be repeated. ABA uses many techniques for increasing useful behaviors and reducing maladaptive behaviors that interfere with daily life. ABA is a systematic approach that breaks skills down into smaller steps that are easier to learn. ABA teaches children essential social skills and decreases behavior problems. Hundreds of published research studies have documented the effectiveness of ABA as among the most reliable treatments applied to children diagnosed with autism and other developmental disorders. It is the only treatment that leads to substantial, socially significant and meaningful changes in the lives of individuals with autism. Our Services

Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA)

FBAs are conducted to determine the function of a target behavior (why it is occurring). With an FBA, hypotheses regarding the (functions) of the problem behavior can be identified and used to develop appropriate behavioral interventions to decrease the problem behavior and increase an appropriate behavior that serves the same function. The behavior analyst will gather information from caregivers regarding the problem behavior and will personally observe the behavior. FBA’s can be time-consuming to complete, depending on the severity of the target behaviors and how long it takes for the behavior analyst to see the behaviors occurring. Skills Assessments

Skills Assessments are conducted to determine the current cognitive/academic functioning of a child. Academic goals can be prioritized and developed based on the results of the skills assessment. Language Assessments

Language assessments (VB-MAPP or ABLLS) are conducted in order to identify any communication barriers. Communication programs can be prioritized and developed based on the results of these assessments. Functional Communication Training

Once the language assessments have been conducted and an appropriate method of communication has been identified, training will be provided on this method. Program Design, Development, and Implementation

Based on the results of the FBA’s and the skills Assessments, academic and positive behavior support programs will be developed for your child. The behavior analyst will train parents and any staff on the proper implementation of these programs. The behavior analyst will observe implementation of programs and provide corrective feedback to ensure they are implemented properly. School Consultation

The behavior analyst will observe your child in the classroom at school and work with the school staff on both academic goals and designing and implementing behavior plans that are functional for the school setting. IEP Development/IEP Attendance

The behavior analyst will assist parents and/or school staff in developing appropriate goals for IEP’s. The behavior analyst will also attend the IEP’s and advocate for your child’s right to learning in the least restrictive environment with necessary supports/modifications in place. Staff Training, Coaching and Support

The behavior analyst can train current staff in ABA methods and observe/provide feedback regarding their implementation of programs and interactions with the child. Program Monitoring and Evaluation

The behavior analyst will monitor programs on a weekly basis by observation, data assessment and graphing data to determine the child’s progress and/or regression with target skills. The behavior analyst will make any necessary revisions to the programs and can prepare progress reports as needed. Social Skills Programs

The behavior analyst will complete a social skills assessment and design programs to help your child learn more appropriate social skills to improve interaction with other adults and typical peers. Social skills are crucial to any child’s ABA program. Supervision for Individuals Seeking Certification

The BCBA will provide supervision required by the BACB to any individual seeking certification as a BCBA or a BCaBA. The supervision may be “distance supervision” which may be completed via video and email correspondence. Discrete Trial Training

Discrete Trial Training is a specific method of teaching used to maximize learning. It is a teaching technique used to develop many skills. Discrete Trial Training involves repeated trials, with each trial having a clear beginning, middle and end. Who Can Provide ABA Intervention? There is a huge demand for ABA therapy. For this reason, many individuals and programs claim to provide ABA services. However, not all of these providers have the education and practical experience that the field of behavior analysis considers minimum requirements for practicing ABA. Quality ABA programs should be designed and/or supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. How Do We Pay For ABA Services? Above and Beyond accepts insurances that cover ABA services. Many insurances do cover ABA services for children diagnosed with Autism, Asperger’s and PDD-NOS, through the recently mandated Autism Insurance Bill for West Virginia. Those not covered include federal and self-funded insurances. Although self-funded insurances are not mandated to cover the bill, a select few choose to provide coverage. CHIPS also covers Autism benefits. Medicaid and Medical card, unfortunately are not covered for any ABA therapy. We also accept private pay for services. Contact Us! We look forward to hearing from you and helping your child. We are willing to travel to various areas in the state.
