I don't often post, but today is an important day. I'm a midwesterner, so I put it like this.
If your neighbor knocks on your door would you give them a cup of sugar?
If your trans neighbor knocks on your door?
Your black neighbor?
Your Palestinian neighbor?
Your Israeli neighbor?
Your immigrant neighbor?
Would you ask to see their ge****ls first? Their passport? Their religious beliefs? Their ballot?
You have kindness in you. You believe fundamentally that people should have their needs met. You're willing to give of yourself to make it happen.
The next four years and beyond are going to require a LOT of sugar. Give a cup of sweet kindness to everyone you encounter. Show up to distribute sugar to those in need, and to advocate for legislation that supports EVERYONE's right to the sugar they need. That sugar is our kindness, grace, and respect. It's the right to choose for themselves who to partner with, how to love, what medical care to receive. There are going to be LOUD voices shouting into microphones that some people deserve sugar and some don't. They're going to say you will starve if you give some sugar, or that the government will take all of your sugar from you. Stand up and say NO to that perspective. You have sugar. And you are kind.
