Difficult to know where to begin. Atlantic Hearing and its staff spent some time last week with the amazing team at Starkey laboratories in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
As always, we are always so impressed with the tremendous amount of research that continues to go in to correcting people’s hearing.
The new Omega/Aris DNN……deep neural network processors are absolutely wonderful. This is by far the most impressive thing I’ve heard in the 29 years of fitting hearing Systems.
The localization and the improvement of sound in noise is absolutely remarkable. 
However, this isn’t even the most exciting thing for me personally. I spend a lot of time listening to music while I exercise and ride my bike. I spend a lot of time running power tools, especially my large lawnmower which I use at least once a week. When I ride my bike, I listen to music and I run into several problems. Number one when I wear my AirPods after a while, they work their way out of my ear because they are not custom-made for my ears. Number two I get a tremendous amount of wind sound in my ears, even though I have my AirPods on noise cancellation. 
When I run my power tools, especially my large lawnmower, I like to listen to music. I would have to wear my plug-in headphones and then a large pair of noise blocking muffs to bring down the loudness of the lawnmower so I could listen to the music at a safe volume.  Of course in hot weather that is not conducive to comfort. 
While at Starkey I realized that another product is getting more and more popular.  This product is not for correcting hearing. This product is for protecting Hearing. It’s proactive for the people like me who are around all kinds of loud noise. At 63 years old I have absolutely no hearing loss.
I considered this a huge blessing.
I talked to the people at Starkey about the Soundgear products that they are now fitting. Oh my golly it is a game changer for me.
I had molds made of my ears professionally, and I ordered the Phantom Soundgear. I received my product about five days later (today) here in Maryland. 
So I started by connecting them to my iPhone and listening to music. It just sounded so much better than streaming through a normal hearing aid.  I then got on my bike and rode 10 miles at an average of about 16 mph. I was clearly able to listen to my music and it sounded so good and was so motivating for me. The wind for the first time was not a factor. I then came home and had more energy so I decided to cut the neighbors yard. I continued to wear my Soundgear product but with no extra protection. I started my lawnmower and I worked for an hour getting a lot done in a positive way listening to my music. During the mowing i barely heard the mower.

So here now at Atlantic Hearing centers we are very much pushing Forward to protect Hearing for the people who still have it and continue to correct Hearing for the people who need correction.
