🧠 The long haul. That's what extended training periods can feel like. Whether you're an athlete, a musician, or anyone pursuing a long-term goal, maintaining motivation can be a real challenge. Those initial bursts of enthusiasm? They can wane. So, how do we keep the fire burning? Here are some key psychological strategies:

*** Build a Supportive Environment: Come visit and see how shared accountability can make a huge difference!

*** Focus on Your β€œWhy”: What's the core reason behind your pursuit? Connecting with that deeper meaning can reignite your drive when things get tough.

*** Break It Down and Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge & celebrate each step forward. This creates a sense of progress and accomplishment.

Remember, maintaining motivation is a skill. It requires self-awareness, discipline, & a willingness to adapt. By implementing these psychological strategies, you can stay on track & achieve your long-term goals.

🧠 Tired of repeating the same patterns? Ready to unlock your full potential? You're not alone- change is HARD. We all have habits & behaviors that hold us back from reaching our full potential. But what if you could break free from those limitations? Performance therapy helps you understand your behaviors, identify roadblocks, & develop sustainable strategies for lasting change.

Change is inherently difficult for a number of reasons:

***Fear of the Unknown: The prospect of change often brings with it uncertainty & fear of the unknown. We naturally gravitate towards the familiar, even if it's not ideal, because it provides a sense of security.

*** Breaking Habits: Old habits are deeply ingrained in our brains. Changing them requires significant effort & can feel uncomfortable or even painful. Our brains resist these changes, preferring the familiar pathways.

***Loss Aversion: We tend to feel the pain of loss more strongly than the pleasure of gain. This means we're more motivated to avoid losing what we have, even if it's not serving us well, than we are to pursue something new and potentially better.

*** Resistance to Change: Change can disrupt our routines, challenge our identities, and require us to step outside of our comfort zones. This can lead to resistance & a desire to maintain the status quo.

***Lack of Support: Changing behaviors can be isolating. Without support from friends, family, or a community, it can be difficult to stay motivated & overcome challenges.

***Self-Doubt and Imposter Syndrome: Change can bring about self-doubt & feelings of inadequacy. We may question our abilities, fear failure, & worry about what others will think.

Performance Therapy isn't just about fixing problems; it's about empowering you to create lasting, positive change.

Ten years ago, mental health was considered a taboo topic β€” not frequently spoken about out loud or publicly, especially amongst athletes. Fast forward to a decade later, athletes have turned to The Players’ Tribune to open up about their struggles with their own mental health.

🧠 Feeling extra love for my amazing support group over the past few weeks. A strong support system is crucial for optimal performance due to several scientific factors:

***Reduced Stress & Anxiety:

+ Oxytocin Release: Social interactions with loved ones stimulate the release of oxytocin, a hormone known to reduce stress & anxiety.

+ Buffer Against Stressors: A supportive network can help individuals cope with life's challenges, reducing the negative impact of stress on performance.

*** Enhanced Motivation and Self-Efficacy:

+ Positive Reinforcement: Encouragement & praise from loved ones can boost motivation & self-belief.

+ Goal Setting & Achievement: A supportive environment can help individuals set & achieve goals, leading to increased confidence & satisfaction.

*** Improved Mental Health:

+ Social Connection: Strong social connections have been linked to better mental health outcomes, including reduced risk of depression & anxiety.

+ Emotional Support: A support system provides a safe space to express emotions & seek guidance, fostering emotional well-being.

***Enhanced Cognitive Function:

+ Reduced Cortisol: Chronic stress, often associated with a lack of support, can elevate cortisol levels, which can impair cognitive function.

+ Improved Memory and Problem-Solving: A supportive environment can reduce stress & improve focus, leading to better cognitive performance.

*** Increased Resilience:

+ Coping Mechanisms: A strong support system can help individuals develop effective coping mechanisms for dealing with adversity.

+ Bouncing Back: Social support can provide the resilience needed to overcome challenges & bounce back from setbacks.

In essence, a strong support system provides a foundation for optimal performance by reducing stress, enhancing motivation, improving mental health, and fostering resilience.

🧠 This week, I’m diving into the Hawthorne Effect. The Hawthorne Effect refers to the tendency of people to modify their behavior when they know they're being observed. Named after a series of experiments conducted at the Western Electric Company's Hawthorne Works in Chicago during the 1920s and 1930s, it initially emerged from research aimed at improving worker productivity.

Here's how the Hawthorne Effect can be leveraged to enhance your performance:

*** Increased Motivation: Knowing we are being observed can motivate us to work harder & strive for better results.

*** Focused Attention: Awareness of being monitored can lead to increased concentration & reduced distractions.

***Improved Behavior: We might adjust our behavior to avoid negative feedback or to impress observers.

*** Enhanced Communication: Leaders observing their team can identify & address potential issues proactively, fostering open communication.

*** Positive Reinforcement: Recognizing & acknowledging good performance can further motivate us due to the Hawthorne Effect.

Key Considerations:

+ Sustainability: While the Hawthorne Effect can provide a short-term boost, long-term performance improvement relies on factors like fair rewards, satisfaction, & clear goals.

+ Individual Differences: The impact of the Hawthorne Effect varies among individuals. Some might thrive under observation, while others might feel pressured or demotivated.

In essence, the Hawthorne Effect highlights the importance of recognizing & leveraging human psychology to improve performance. By creating a positive & supportive environment, leaders can harness the power of observation to motivate and inspire their teams.

🧠 Sometimes we fall into the trap of the β€œwould’ve, could’ve, should've" mentality, but today I'm celebrating putting in a solid effort and knowing it's okay to stop. Here's the science behind why:

*** Reduced stress: Pushing yourself constantly leads to burnout. Recognizing your limits and stopping when you've done enough helps manage stress hormones like cortisol. Check out this research all about it: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK538239/

Our bodies are wired for cycles of work and rest. Constantly pushing ourselves activates our stress response, flooding us with cortisol. By acknowledging our limits and stopping when we've done a good day's work, we can keep those stress hormones in check.

*** Improved focus: Think of your brain like a phone battery. Nobody expects their phone to function at 10% - it needs time to recharge for optimal performance. By taking breaks and allowing your brain to recharge, you return to tasks feeling sharper and more focused. It's like letting your phone battery reach 100% before tackling the next challenge!

*** Boosted motivation: Completing tasks and feeling good about your progress is a powerful motivator. Recognizing your effort today fuels your drive to tackle things tomorrow. It's all about building positive reinforcement for that internal fire!

So, ditch the guilt and celebrate a job well done! Who else is calling it a day and celebrating a job well done?

Let's be honest, "beginning again" can feel like walking a tightrope blindfolded. Excitement? Sure! But also a healthy dose of fear, doubt, & maybe even a touch of nausea.

But guess what? That's totally normal! New beginnings, whether it's a new job, competition, sales region, or simply a new outlook, come with a rollercoaster of emotions.

Here's the thing: those wobbly first steps are often the most important ones. So, how do we navigate this emotional landscape & shift towards the positive side?

** Acknowledge your feelings: Don't bottle them up! Whether it's excitement, fear, or a mix of both, giving your emotions space to breathe helps you understand them & move forward.

** Focus on the "why": Remind yourself why you're choosing this new beginning. What excites you? What growth are you seeking? Reconnecting with your purpose fuels motivation.

** Celebrate small wins: Starting fresh isn't linear. Recognize & celebrate even the little victories, like landing that interview or tackling a new task.

** Find your support system: Don't go it alone! Surround yourself with people who believe in you & can offer encouragement & a listening ear. Feeling overwhelmed? Don't hesitate to reach out for help. is here to help!

** Embrace the journey: Remember, beginnings are just that – beginnings. Enjoy the process of learning, growing, and evolving. The best part? You get to rewrite your story!

Remember, even the smallest step forward is progress. So take a deep breath, trust yourself, and embrace the exciting (and sometimes scary) adventure that is "beginning again."
