Love seeing old buildings being restored.

We are excited to announce that The Hometown Foundation will be holding an open house for the property at 1001 Franklin Avenue on Saturday, January 10th from 12pm through 3pm. We would love for the community to come and check out the beautifully renovated building on the Historic South End.

Built in the winter of 1922-1923 and opened in April of 1923 as the Gugloz Brothers South End Market, this building contributed to the hustle and bustle of our South End community for 37 years until the brothers William and August Gugloz closed the store. For the remainder of the time until today, it was used as an accounting office and later residential apartments. The building has seen much hard use during those later years.

The Hometown Foundation is actively working to preserve this fine building to help revitalize the Historic South End Neighborhood. While it may be impractical to open again as a small market, it is certainly a great location for numerous other commercially needed uses. We look forward to completing the project and we are dedicated to seeing it used again as a valuable community asset.
