“Toilet Chronicles: The Phone and the Pile”

One day, Paul went to the toilet with his phone, as usual. He started scrolling through social media, laughing at memes, and watching videos. Before he knew it, 30 minutes had passed.

A week later, Paul noticed he was feeling pain and discomfort whenever he sat down. When he finally saw a doctor, he was told, “You have piles!”

A Tough Choice for Love💔🖤

When Maria met David in their small village. They were just teenagers. They laughed together, helped each other with farm chores, and dreamed of a big future. Over the years, their bond grew strong, and everyone knew they were meant to be together.

When David finished school and found work in the city, he returned home with one goal—asking Maria to marry him. Maria’s heart leaped with joy when he proposed under the mango tree where they always met. She shouted, “Yes!” without a second thought.

But during their wedding preparations, they visited the clinic for routine tests. That’s when the doctor told them something that shook their world: they were both AS genotype.

Mama Joy was the kindest woman in our neighborhood. She loved cooking and always shared food with everyone. But for a long time, she kept feeling tired. “It’s just age catching up with me,” she would say.

One day, her daughter noticed something strange—Mama Joy’s feet were swollen, and her skin looked darker than usual. She begged her mom to visit the clinic, but Mama Joy refused. “I don’t have time for hospitals,” she said.

But the tiredness got worse, and soon, Mama Joy couldn’t do much without feeling breathless. Finally, her daughter took her to the clinic. After tests, the doctor said, “Mama Joy, you have high blood pressure. It’s affecting your heart.”

Mama Joy was shocked. “But I feel fine most of the time,” she said.

The doctor explained, “High blood pressure is a silent problem. It doesn’t always hurt, but it can cause serious issues like heart failure or stroke. You need to eat less salt, exercise, and take your medicine.”

The Silent Visitor: My Journey with Hepatitis B

I’ll never forget the day everything changed. It started like any other morning in my small village in Cameroon. I was busy preparing for my son Timi’s 7th birthday. I wanted everything to be perfect, but I kept feeling unusually tired. For weeks, I had been brushing it off—thinking it was just exhaustion from juggling work, home, and family.

That day, as I was peeling yams, my best friend Sharon came over to help. We laughed and chatted as usual until she suddenly stopped and stared at me.

“Kiara, what’s wrong with your eyes?” she asked.

“What do you mean?” I replied, confused.

“Your eyes look… yellow,” she said, her voice filled with concern.

I rushed to a mirror and saw it too. My heart sank. Deep down, I knew something wasn’t right.

Sharon insisted I go to the health center. I didn’t want to. “I feel fine most of the time,” I said. “Besides, I don’t have money for that right now.” But Sharon wouldn’t hear it. She even offered to come with me and cover the cost.

The next morning, we went to the health center. The nurse was kind and listened carefully as I described my symptoms. She took some blood for tests and asked me to wait.

When the results came, she sat me down and said, “Kiara, you have hepatitis B.”

“Hepatitis B?” I asked, shocked. “What is that?”

She explained it was a virus that attacks the liver and that many people have it without knowing. It can spread through things like unprotected s*x, sharing needles or razors, or even during childbirth.

“How long have I had it? Am I going to die?” I asked, tears streaming down my face.

The nurse reassured me, “It’s manageable. You’ll need treatment, and your family should get tested. But it’s not a death sentence if we catch it early.”

I was scared but also relieved to know what was wrong. I started treatment and asked my family to get tested. My husband and son were fine, but my younger sister also tested positive.

Now, I share my story because I don’t want others to go through what I did. Hepatitis B is a silent visitor. It doesn’t knock loudly; it sneaks in and stays until it’s too late.

Ada had learned to embrace the process, knowing that it wasn’t about perfection. It was about making consistent, mindful decisions. She was no longer living in fear of her diagnosis but was actively managing it with the support of her family, friends, and healthcare providers.

Ada sat in Dr. Emily’s office with a long list of lifestyle changes in her hand. The list felt overwhelming—regular exercise, cutting down on processed foods, monitoring blood sugar, and managing stress. “How am I supposed to fit all this into my already chaotic life?” Ada muttered.

Tasha, ever the supportive friend, chimed in. “One step at a time, Ada. Let’s tackle this together.”

That evening, Ada decided to start small. She swapped her late-night bowl of jollof rice for a plate of grilled fish and vegetables. The next morning, she set her alarm 15 minutes earlier and took a brisk walk around her neighborhood. Her legs ached, and she missed her bed, but something about moving her body felt good.
