Good Day, Everybody! 🌷🌻🪻
So, I've been talking quite a bit this month to my clients about all of the "self's"...
❤️❤️❤️
•Self-love
•Self-esteem
•Self-compaasion
•Self-awareness
•Self-care
•Self-empathy
You name it - we've talked about it! My clients are working working! ✊🏿🫶🏿
Typically, people are in therapy because of a struggle with themselves based on known and unknown sources. For example, struggles with their identity, thoughts, hopelessness about their futures, questions around their own behavior, to unpack the pain caused by trauma that shifted their perspective of self, people who've discouraged them, how depression and anxiety makes their lives difficult to manage, or processing that teacher who made them feel incapable of achieving, now feel stuck, etc.
What I've noticed is...
Many times, people are looking for others to make "it" better or them better, sometimes even people who are the source of their pain. We wait on others to shift to give ourselves permission to do the same, but what I've learned is:
•People tend not to move as quickly as we'd like them to (or at all).
•People may not give us the sorry that are due to us. •Sometimes, people aren't as invested in being a part of your healing journey or have no desire to see you grow. Sad, but true.
•Folks struggle with asking others for forgiveness.
-Unhealed individuals make it hard to be vulnerable with.
With this said...
We can't wait for people to act right, or how we want them to act. It'll only lead to our own frustration. Instead, we communicate our desires, and turn the self-love on overdrive!
Don't wait for them to buy you flowers... Buy your own.
Don't wait for their kindness... Be kind to yourself!
Don't wait for them to give you the green light... Give yourself it and go!
Your relationship with yourself is one of the most important relationships you can invest in! 💯
