Edward H. Wyman
Edward Hugh Wyman, born January 2, 1948, in the Bronx, New York, passed peacefully at home on January 8, 2026, exactly as he wished.
Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Christine “Chris” Wyman, who passed on December 15, 2025.
He is survived by his daughter, Laura Brown, her husband Jeremiah Brown, and his cherished granddaughter, Devin Brown, who was the absolute joy of his life.
Ed was also preceded in death by his parents, Robert Wyman and Ann Wyman (née Cummings); his stepfather, George Ziemer; and his brother, Robert Wyman. He is survived by his sister-in-law Mary Wyman; his sister Lu Ann Strellner and her husband Steve; his brothers George Ziemer and wife Margaret, Charles Ziemer and wife Alexandra, and James Ziemer and wife Barbara; his cousin Hugh Cummings and wife Rosemary; and many nieces, great-nieces, nephews, and great-nephews who adored him and will miss him deeply.
Ed proudly served his country in the United States Navy, enlisting in July 1967. He served aboard the USS Newport News (CA-148) and attained the rank of Shipfitter (Pipefitter) Third Class (SF3). His service included time during the Vietnam era, and he was honorably discharged on September 13, 1971.
During his military service, Ed earned several decorations, including the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, and the National Defense Service Medal. He carried his service with quiet pride and never needed recognition to know what it meant.
Following his time in the Navy, Ed continued his trade as a plumber and pipefitter, becoming a longtime member of Plumbers and Gasfitters Local Union No. 1, where he remained a proud retiree. He was also a devoted member of the Bronx VFW Post 620 for over 50 years and later the Kerhonkson VFW Post 8959, communities that mattered deeply to him.
Ed was an easygoing, laid-back man—until he needed his famous “Bronx Eddie” attitude, which appeared right on cue when the moment called for it. He was well known for his classic Irish goodbyes. He loved being outdoors, fishing, and especially raising pigeons, often found quietly in the yard with them. Above all, he adored his granddaughter Devin, and the bond they shared was unmistakable.
Born and raised in the Bronx, Ed and Chris spent a few years in Texas, where they welcomed their daughter Laura, while he worked on oil refineries before returning home to New York. Eventually, they settled in Kerhonkson, where Laura grew up on a small farm—with sheep, rabbits, chickens, goats, and even a pig from time to time—a childhood full of animals, responsibility, and love.
Ed was a wonderful father who gave his daughter a strong foundation for life. He believed in honesty, resilience, and the understanding that life does not last forever—and that death is part of the natural cycle. After a brief battle with colorectal cancer, he was able to return home on hospice care, where he remained comfortable and at peace until the end.
Ed passed quietly in his home, with his daughter by his side, in a moment filled with love, gratitude, and grace.
He left this world without pain, surrounded by love, exactly the way he wanted.
Ed will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honored.
