Our Story
My name is Jeanette Silver and I’m an Occupational Therapist who graduated from OT school in South Africa in 1995 and was recruited to work in USA since 1996. I have a variety of experiences, including 3 years in a special needs school in Memphis and in the regular education setting, as well as doing early intervention in the home and preschool setting. I have been working in private clinics and communities in North Carolina since the Fall of 2001, and have come to realize the need that parents have for support and resources for their children. I have also come to see how much input parents can provide other parents, as well as the professionals who are working with their children.
For this purpose I have started this Jabulani Kids Pediatric Therapy, PC.
Origin of our name & mission of our company:
Since our ‘roots’ are in South Africa, we wanted to choose a name which reflects our heritage. ‘Jabulani’ (jah boo LAH nee) is a Zulu word meaning 'rejoice', ‘come to bring happiness to everybody’ or ‘we are happy’. Zulu is one of the national languages spoken in the region that my husband & I grew up in.
My mission is to inspire parents of children with special needs to have hope and to believe that anything is possible. Every child is born with God-given potential. We are surrounded by so much discouragement: ‘if only’, ‘this is all your child will amount to’, but the truth is that nobody (except God) knows why and what the future holds for our little ones.
In September 2009, I started Jabulani Kids Pediatric Therapy, PC, providing Occupational Therapy services to children under 3 years of age in the homes and community (including daycares and preschools). I predominantly service Forsyth county in North Carolina.
I am experienced with oral motor/feeding skills training, developmental skills training and helping families with children who suffer from sensory processing difficulties. Many of the children I serve have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, and struggle with social and play skills. I love working with families to help their children realize their full potential.
I want to give you the opportunity to network with others who believed the impossible and didn't give up. There is hope. There is joy. Be glad!
