Is it time for a closet cleanout? Marty Melenick and her friends are collecting donations for the Pink Ribbon Pop Up (a fabulous shopping event benefiting earlier.org). This Saturday, August 16, you can drop off your donations between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at 232 West Market Street, Greensboro. Just pull up in front of the building and they will do the rest.

TBT to March 1992: the moment that changed everything…

Just three months after a clear mammogram, Martha Kaley was playfully wrestling with her Chocolate Lab, Sherlock, when his paw scratched her chest. She discovered a straight-line bruise and felt a mass at the base of the bruise. Her doctors determined there were atypical cells and it should be removed.
During surgery, her doctor did a quick freeze and while the lump she felt was benign, he decided to explore a bit further.

This decision was fortuitous, as it led to the discovery of a cancerous tumor deep within her chest wall. The tumor’s location and density made it undetectable during the mammogram just months earlier. This experience highlighted a critical gap in early detection methods, igniting her passion for change…and the founding of earlier.org - Friends for an Earlier Breast Cancer Test®, dedicated to funding research to identify earlier biological detection methods for breast cancer.

Early detection is key to improving outcomes and saving lives!

Save the Date for the 30th Annual Gathering of Friends Luncheon. We are honored to welcome Dr. Claire Guest as the keynote speaker on September 30 at the Greensboro Country Club, Greensboro, NC.

Dr. Guest is the visionary behind Medical Detection Dogs (UK), and her groundbreaking work has saved countless lives—including her own. In 2009, during a routine walk, her Labrador, Daisy, began nudging her persistently in the chest. That alert led to the discovery of a cancerous lump in its early stages—confirming what Claire had long believed: dogs can detect cancer through their remarkable sense of smell.

Her story mirrors that of our own Martha Kaley and her beloved Chocolate Lab Sherlock, whose keen nose helped detect Martha’s breast cancer.
