National Mental Wellness Month is a time to pause, reflect, and prioritize our mental health.

After the hustle of the holidays, January offers space to recharge, address post-holiday stress, and set realistic intentions that support mental health. It is a great opportunity to remind ourselves that caring for our minds is just as important as caring for our bodies. Let’s keep breaking the stigma by talking about it, supporting one another, and reminding people that it’s okay to not be okay.
💜💚 You matter. Your mental health matters. Always.

January is , but what is Mental Wellness anyway?

🌿 Mental wellness is something we should care for every day, just like our physical health.

This month, let's focus on self-care, mindfulness, and reaching out for support when needed. Whether it's through meditation, exercise, or simply taking a moment to breathe, every small step counts. Join us in raising awareness and breaking the stigma around mental health. Together, we can create a supportive community that values mental wellness for all. 🌈✨

Natural disasters can bring up more than just physical loss - they often resurface old trauma, create new anxiety, and leave us feeling ungrounded and overwhelmed - even months after the fact.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

✔️ It's okay to grieve - even if your home wasn't directly affected.
✔️ Healing can take months or even years, and that's okay.
✔️ Stress responses like brain fog, irritability, or exhaustion are normal after traumatic events.
✔️ Reaching out for support is a strength, not a weakness.
✔️ Small steps, like establishing routines, talking with someone you trust, or simply naming your feelings, can help bring a sense of stability.

You don’t have to go through this alone. Mental health support is for these moments, too. Our Hill Country Emotional Support is safe, supportive space for individuals and families affected by the flood, located at 819 Water Street, Suite 170 in Kerrville (inside the One Schreiner Center, 1st floor).

ALL SERVICES ARE FREE‼️
What we offer:
*Licensed mental health professionals for emotional support
*A calming children’s area with fidget toys, coloring books & more
*Care coordinators to connect you with helpful resources
Open Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm
Saturday and after hours appointments available.
Whether you’re seeking someone to talk to, need a space to decompress, or are unsure where to turn next, we’re here to help. For urgent mental health needs at any time, our 24/7 crisis line is available at 877-466-0660.

💙January is National Human Trafficking Awareness Month💙
The blue heart is a powerful reminder of the importance of this issue and symbolizes the sadness of trafficking victims. Human trafficking is a serious violation of human rights, affecting millions of people worldwide. In recognition and throughout the month of January, Blue Campaign seeks to get awareness information out to the public designed to educate the public, law enforcement and other industry partners to recognize the indicators of human trafficking, and how to appropriately respond to possible cases.

There are two different types of human trafficking; s*x trafficking, which involves victims performing commercial s*x through the use of force, fraud, or coercion, and labor trafficking, in which victims are forced to perform labor or services through the threat of force, fraud or coercion.
There are several risk factors that put a victim at risk of human trafficking, the main ones including:
-Poverty
-Homelessness
-Substance Use
-History of s*xual abuse/assault
-Child abuse/neglect (DEC)
-Runaway
-Age
-Juvenile Justice or Foster Care
-Mental health problems
-Domestic violence
-Displaced persons (refugee/immigrant)
If you believe you may have information about a trafficking situation, here is what you can do to make a report:
-Do not at any time attempt to confront a suspected trafficker directly or alert a victim to your suspicions.
-Call 911 for emergency situations – threats of violence, physical assault, emergency medical needs, etc.
-If you are a victim of forced labor or commercial s*x or concerned that someone may be, contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 888-373-7888; Text “BEFREE” to 233733; or Live Chat at [humantraffickinghotline.org.]

As we enter a new year, many of us make well-intentioned resolutions to better ourselves in big ways - resolutions that often lead us to place unnecessary pressure on ourselves. They can also increase stress and disappointment, and lead us to feel worse about ourselves if/when we're unable to stick with them. In short, big resolutions can actually be counterproductive.

Instead of setting ourselves up for additional negative feelings, this year do away with resolutions. It's okay to be gentle with yourself and not make large commitments as the new year starts. There is nothing wrong with making smaller, more manageable changes throughout the year or avoiding the new year resolution mentality all together.

Seasonal Affective Disorder can take its toll on our wellbeing during the winter months, at times making it feel as though spring will never arrive. SAD is a type of depression that comes and goes with the seasons. It typically starts in the late fall/early winter months and goes away during the spring and summer.

December is SAD Awareness month and as it comes to an end; we wanted to close this month out with a few simple recommendations that can help manage SAD symptoms:

☀️Exercise daily in sunlight. This can help you sleep better at night and give you more energy. Increase your motivation to exercise by teaming up with a friend or family member.
☀️Engage in daily activities you find pleasant to uplift your mood, like listening to music, reading, or visiting a park.
☀️Be around others, even if you don’t feel like doing so. Social interaction can help you be less focused on your negative thoughts.
☀️Practice good sleep hygiene. Go to bed and wake up at the same time daily. Establish a bedtime ritual that involves turning of all electronics and doing deep breathing/relaxation exercises.
☀️Practice daily gratitude. Find one thing to be grateful for each day and reflect on the meaning.
☀️Practice self-compassion. It is easy to be self-critical, but remember to be kind to yourself. Talk to yourself as you would a friend.
☀️Practice mindfulness. Be fully present in the moment, with full awareness of your thoughts, feelings, sensations and surroundings. Being a witness to your thoughts without judging them may help you feel less depressed.
☀️Don’t struggle with SAD in silence. Reaching out to a mental health professional for help is a sign of strength rather than weakness.
