The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is proud to participate in DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day next Saturday! This event is a safe, simple, and anonymous way to dispose of unwanted, unused, or expired medications.
Saturday, April 25, 2026, is the United States Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration’s Prescription Drug Take Back Day in Lancaster County and across the nation.
This time presents a great opportunity to clear our homes of outdated, unused, and unneeded medications that take up space, create clutter, and, most importantly, could pose a threat to others around us.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, the Lancaster Police Department, the Coalition for Healthy Youth, the Children’s Council, and Counseling Services of Lancaster will partner with the DEA and will have personnel at four sites in the county to collect these medications in order to make our citizens and their homes a safer place.
Collection sites (10:00 AM – 1:00 PM):
• Walmart – 805 Hwy 9 Bypass W, Lancaster, SC 29720
• Del Webb Library – 7641 Charlotte Hwy, Indian Land, SC 29707
• Indian Land Community Fair – 8063 River Rd, Indian Land, SC 29707
• Kershaw Branch Library – 101 N Hampton St, Kershaw, SC 29067
Only pills and patches may be dropped off. Liquids and needles will not be accepted. No special packaging is required. Labels identifying patients and medications will be removed, and the medications will be safely destroyed. All you have to do is bring them to us. It’s that simple, and you won’t have to worry about how to dispose of them again.
In the event that DEA Take Back Day doesn’t work for you, other drop-off sites are available most of the time, including:
• Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office – 1520 Pageland Highway, Lancaster (24 hours a day)
• Indian Land Substation – 1821 Sandal Brook Road, Indian Land (during regular business hours)
• Kershaw Substation – Kershaw Town Hall, 113 South Hampton Street, Kershaw (during regular business hours)
• Lancaster Police Department – 405 East Arch Street, Lancaster (24 hours a day)
This is a simple step that makes a big difference. By safely disposing of unused medications, you help prevent misuse, reduce accidental exposure, and keep our community safer.
Together, we can make Lancaster County safer.
