PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

“An ounce of prevention, is worth a pound of cure”

With the arrival of colder temps and snow in the valley we welcome the reprieve from those pesky and possible disease carrying mosquitos, and ticks.

While some might see this as an opportunity to pause their pet’s monthly flea and tick regimen until the warmer weather, you might want to reconsider.

Inevitably, each winter in the valley we see another pesky parasite…the louse…although I doubt you’ll see just one. Yes, lice! This fiendish foe is incredibly unpleasant for both you and your pet.

Once your pet has an infestation it is quite a process to get rid of.

Your pet must see a veterinarian for a diagnosis and to begin treatment. The veterinarian will most likely recommend both an oral internal parasite treatment and an external parasite treatment which will need to be repeated at regular intervals for one month or more. All pets in the house should be treated. You must wash all bedding, dog sweaters, leashes, collars, and grooming tools in hot water. You must thoroughly clean all areas where the pets spend time, to prevent a re-infestation.

There is however, a better solution to this reoccurring issue….PREVENTION.

Keeping your pet/pets on their monthly flea and tick regimen throughout the year can prevent a lice infestation, saving your pet’s health, your sanity, and even your pocketbook, in the long run.

The Sun Valley Animal Center is looking to add positive, hard-working, self-disciplined, detail-oriented employees to our great Pet Lodge team. Employees should be able to communicate in a professional manner with clients, including outstanding phone and computer skills. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: personal attention to our pet guests, feeding and cleaning guests and daily cleaning and maintenance of the kennels and grounds. Baths, dog walking and hikes are also a part of the employee’s daily routine. This position is full time, year-round and eligible candidates must be able to work weekends. Candidates must also have a valid driver’s license and be able to lift 50 lbs. Competitive wages and Benefits.
