Resident Spotlight: Dennis & Carol McCarthy 🌟
Meet Dennis and Carol, wonderful members of our One Lincoln Park family for the past two years! Their warm personalities, love of community, and uplifting spirit shine through in everything they do.
Dennis was born in Dayton but spent 30 years in Northern California, where he worked with autistic children on a ranch and later built a career as a fine dining chef in San Francisco for over 20 years. Carol, raised in Northern California, worked with children before moving to Oakwood in 1998, where she dedicated her time as an aide for children with disabilities. Together, they returned to Oakwood so their daughter could enjoy the area’s fine schools and safe environment.
Throughout their lives, Dennis has enjoyed listening to music from around the world—especially modern minimal jazz and New School classical—while Carol has volunteered through her church, served as a step-in minister, and given her time to Hospice. Here at OLP, she now enjoys the Pen-in-Hand writing club and the Women’s Conversation Group, where she’s made wonderful new friendships.
When asked what they enjoy most about One Lincoln Park, Dennis shared his appreciation for the friendly, optimistic, and gracious attitude of management and staff, while Carol loves being surrounded by caring neighbors and the convenience of being close to both Oakwood and their Kettering doctors. Their most-used amenity? Transportation—both agree it’s indispensable, and Dennis especially values the kind personalities of the drivers. They also enjoy the library, new bistro, and variety of meal choices.
One of Dennis’s favorite memories is seeing the beautiful view from their apartment for the first time—the greenery, the landscaping, and the friendly atmosphere. For Carol, it’s the simple comfort of feeling at home in their beautiful apartment.
When asked what they’d tell someone considering One Lincoln Park, Dennis says: “This is a fine choice. We investigated many, and this suited us best—positive energy, connected, well-centered, with care and autonomy.” Carol adds: “We have been so happy here and met such lovely people.”
We are so grateful to have Dennis and Carol as part of our community, and we celebrate the kindness, warmth, and positivity they bring to One Lincoln Park every day!
